Systems for monitoring negative pressure devices

Abstract

The present invention provides systems and devices for monitoring pressure within a negative pressure system, such as a suction container. In one aspect, the system includes an anchor configured for positioning within the patient's intestine at the anastomosis site and a negative pressure source, such as a suction container, fluidly coupled to the anchor. A portable alarm device is attached to the suction container and includes a trigger to detect the pressure inside. A signaling device emits a signal when this pressure exceeds a predetermined threshold to ensure that the anchor remains firmly in contact with the intestinal walls at the anastomosis site. The alarm device includes a handle that allows the patient to hold and carry the suction container, thereby facilitating patient mobility during the recovery period.
