Abstract
A system for accumulating potential energy and transforming it into electrical energy, comprising a structure (1) with a row (H) of aligned vertical bays (11), in which two rows of weights (21, 22) are housed, movable vertically within said bays, and a mobile crane (3), movable longitudinally along the row (H) of bays (11). Said mobile crane comprises a single motor / generator (4) that is coupled, by means of a transmission (41), to two drums (5, 6) carrying respective cable reels (51, 61) for lifting and lowering the weights (21, 22) within the bays, so that when operating as a motor, it can continuously and alternately raise weights with one drum or the other, and when operating as a generator, it is driven alternately and continuously by one drum or the other during the lowering of the weights.
