Abstract
A method for monitoring a cargo space in which at least one area defining said space is measured in three dimensions using one or more distance sensors installed within it. The measurement values are processed and classified by an algorithm programmed in a calculation or evaluation unit. If the recorded distances represent measurement points or sets of measurement points that describe three-dimensional surfaces outside the cargo space, the "door open" state is detected; otherwise, without defining three-dimensional surfaces outside the cargo space, the "door closed" state is detected.
