Abstract

The invention relates to a buoyancy and surfacing method and system for underwater vehicles based on the electrolysis of water, preferably seawater. The method comprises generating, during immersion, at least one gas using an electrolytic cell, storing said gas in communication with at least one ballast tank, and, when surfacing or buoyancy adjustment is required, allowing the total or partial expulsion of water from the tank to the outside. In a first embodiment, the gas is compressed and stored at a pressure higher than the external pressure, so that its expansion, upon opening a valve, displaces the water from the ballast tank. In another embodiment, the gas is stored at a pressure substantially equal to the external pressure, preferably in the hull of the vehicle, cooperating with water expulsion means and reducing structural requirements at great depths. The system comprises at least one electrolytic cell, at least one gas storage tank, and at least one ballast tank with an outlet valve.
