Abstract
The integrated system and method for the conversion of invasive water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) biomass into renewable biogas and nutrient-rich bioslurry, addresses environmental degradation and energy poverty by comprising 8 feedstock preparation subsystem for harvesting, cleaning, and size-reducing water hyacinth; an adapted anaerobic digestion subsystem utilizing a fixed-dome biogas plant optimized for a co-digestion feedstock mixture of water hyacinth and cow dung in ዉ preferred ratio of 0.5:0.5:1; and an output utilization subsystem for distributing the produced biogas for household cooking and lighting and the bioslurry as an organic fertilizer. The invention provides ዉ scalable, circular economy solution that effectively removes an invasive species while producing ዉ clean energy source yielding approximately 0.43 mé / kg of biogas and ዉ valuable organic amendment, thereby improving rural livelihoods, health, and agricultural productivity
