Quick method for checking shoe fit

Abstract

A quick method for checking shoe fit that can be performed in approximately five minutes using only the insoles and usual socks. The method comprises eight steps: (1) removing the insoles, (2) placing the feet on the insoles while wearing socks, and then successively checking: (3) the length with 10 to 20 mm of space in front of the longest toe, (4) the width with a maximum lateral overhang of 1.5 mm on each side, (5) the heel position at 5 mm ± 2 mm from the rear edge of the insole, (6) complete coverage of the calcaneal tuberosity of the heel, (7) alignment of the metatarsophalangeal flex point with a tolerance of 5 mm, and (8) the suitability of the insole shape to the forefoot. The method relies on a purely visual inspection, without any specific tools, and aims to reduce foot health problems associated with wearing poorly fitting shoes.
