Abstract

The invention relates to a composition, kit and method destined to extract mycotoxins from cereal samples. The composition is in the form of a dry powder and includes a buffering agent, an inorganic salt as an ionic strength agent, a nonionic surfactant and a stabilizer. When reconstituted with water, the composition creates an effective extraction medium that eliminates the need for the use of organic solvents. The method includes combining the dry composition with the sample, adding water, rapidly stirring and separating the liquid extract containing the mycotoxins. The process is suitable for the simultaneous extraction of multiple types of mycotoxins. The kit includes dry powder composition and associated equipment.
