Ocean wave energy extraction device

Abstract

An ocean wave energy extraction device for extracting energy from the sea waves (1), is disclosed. It comprises a buoy (3) having a three-dimensional floating blocks structure with large volume and bending stiffness which enables the lateral size of the buoy (3) to be variable and actively controlled during the operation, and a power take-off system which extracts wave energy and includes a damping coefficient changing system which increases the efficiency. The three-dimensional floating blocks structure of the buoy (3) during the operation enables high wave energy extraction efficiency in a broader range of sea wavelengths and improved scalability. Furthermore, the buoy (3) may comprise a number of repurposed shipping containers (3) which enable cost reduction, modularity, circularity in case the repurposed shipping containers (3) are decommissioned, scalability, and repairability.
