Honeycomb Type Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) Circular Inspection Manhole Cover and the Fabrication Method

Abstract

UHPC has gained widespread application in civil engineering, and been increasingly employed in producing manhole covers. To further enhance the characteristics of UHPC material and improve the structural performance of manhole cover, an innovative structural system - Honeycomb Type Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) Circular Inspection Manhole Cover, has been proposed. This technology employs UHPC material in circular inspection manhole cover configuration, with structural reinforcement set into a cycle of symmetry by six triangular grids composed of hexagonal grids. The plane shape of the grids is like a honeycomb. The manhole cover is designed to transfer the load from the conventional orthogonal two directions to the angle of 120° of the three-way until along the radial cycle, resulting in a more uniform force distribution. The integration of UHPC material effectively enhances the inspection manhole cover's bearing capacity and service life, representing a significant advancement in manhole cover design and performance.
