Interior of the toilet room

Abstract

This article relates to the interior design of a side-entry toilet room. For the purpose of explanation, the front of the toilet room when seated in a standard Western-style seated position is defined as "front," and the back as "rear." This article is characterized by an arc-shaped ceiling that peaks in height in front of the front edge of the toilet, and the rear ceiling height being below that peak. This feature creates a visually seamless spatial extension from back to front when viewed from a seated position, thus reducing the feeling of confinement even in narrow spaces such as toilet rooms under stairwells.
