Description

Technology Field

[0001] The present invention relates to an electrode manufacturing method and an electrode manufacturing apparatus, and more specifically, to an electrode manufacturing apparatus and an electrode manufacturing method capable of detecting a decrease in tension of an electrode substrate in real time using a tension sensing unit and an edge pressing member, and rapidly stopping the transport of an electrode substrate coated with an undried coating liquid when the electrode substrate is disconnected. Background Technology

[0002] As the global secondary battery market shows rapid growth, innovative improvements in electrode manufacturing processes are emerging as a key factor in securing industrial competitiveness. In particular, due to the rapid growth of the electric vehicle and energy storage system (ESS) markets, mass production technology for high-quality electrodes is becoming increasingly important; consequently, improving the stability and productivity of the electrode coating process is recognized as an urgent task.

[0003] The electrode coating process widely uses a method in which a slurry containing active material is coated onto a metal current collector and then dried. To improve productivity, a double-sided coating method is mainly applied in which the electrode slurry is coated onto the upper and lower parts of the current collector simultaneously and then dried.

[0004] FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram showing the transfer of an electrode substrate in a general electrode manufacturing device (10). FIG. 2 is a conceptual diagram showing the structure of an electrode manufacturing device (10) in a schematic manner.

[0005] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, the electrode manufacturing process proceeds in the following order: a current collector (4) supplied from an unwinder (11) travels along a guide roll (12) and passes through an upper coater (13) and a lower coater (14), where electrode slurry is applied to both sides to form a coated portion (2), and uncoated portions (3) are formed on both edges of the coated portion (2). Subsequently, the coated slurry is dried while passing through a drying portion (15), and finally, it is wound up in a rewinder (16). During this process, a plurality of guide rolls (12) control the tension and transport path of the electrode.

[0006] However, these conventional coating processes have the following technical limitations and problems.

[0007] If a break in the electrode substrate occurs while the coating process is being performed along with the transfer of the electrode substrate, the equipment may be extensively contaminated by the undried electrode slurry. That is, when the electrode substrate breaks, the electrode substrate being transferred moves irregularly due to a sudden loss of tension, and the undried electrode slurry is scattered onto the guide rolls, the inner walls of the drying oven, and surrounding equipment, causing extensive contamination.

[0008] In particular, if a break occurs inside the drying oven, the slurry hardens rapidly due to the high-temperature environment, making it very difficult to clean the equipment.

[0009] Furthermore, if equipment contamination occurs, the entire production line must be halted to perform lengthy cleaning operations. This process not only results in the loss of expensive electrode raw materials but also incurs economic losses due to the production stoppage.

[0010] Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop innovative technology that can immediately prevent equipment contamination and minimize productivity loss even if a wire break occurs during the coating process. The problem to be solved

[0011] The present invention aims to solve the problems that occur in conventional electrode transfer processes.

[0012] Specifically, through one embodiment of the present invention, the purpose is to provide an electrode manufacturing apparatus and an electrode manufacturing method capable of detecting a decrease in tension of an electrode substrate in real time, stopping the rotation of a guide roller when the electrode substrate is disconnected, and gripping the edge of the electrode substrate to stably fix it.

[0013] In addition, the present invention aims to provide an electrode manufacturing apparatus and an electrode manufacturing method that, in the event of a disconnection of the electrode substrate, can selectively grip and fix the uncoated portion without damaging the coating portion of the electrode substrate through an embodiment of the present invention.

[0014] Finally, the present invention aims to provide an electrode manufacturing apparatus and an electrode manufacturing method that improve process flexibility by detecting the width of an electrode substrate in real time using a vision unit through an embodiment of the present invention and accommodating electrode substrates of various widths using a servo motor and a moving axis. means of solving the problem

[0016] The electrode manufacturing device may further include a control unit configured to operate the plurality of edge fixing members to grip the edge of the electrode substrate when the tension value of the electrode substrate received from the tension sensing unit is smaller than a preset reference value.

[0017] The control unit may be configured to stop the rotation of the guide roller when the tension value of the electrode material received from the tension sensing unit is smaller than a preset reference value.

[0018] The electrode substrate may include a coated portion coated with an active material and an uncoated portion formed on both edges of the coated portion and not coated with an active material, and the plurality of edge fixing members may be provided to grip only the uncoated portion.

[0019] The plurality of edge fixing members may include a plurality of first fixing members spaced apart at the upper and lower portions of one edge in the width direction of the electrode substrate and a plurality of second fixing members spaced apart at the upper and lower portions of the other edge in the width direction of the electrode substrate, and the first fixing members and the second fixing members may be arranged to simultaneously grip and fix the edge of the electrode substrate in the upper and lower directions.

[0020] The first fixing members and the second fixing members may have a square contact surface or a curved contact surface.

[0021] The control unit can control the plurality of edge fixing members to simultaneously grip the edges of the electrode substrate when the signal received from the tension sensing unit is smaller than a preset reference value.

[0022] The electrode manufacturing device may further include a position adjustment unit provided to adjust the position of the plurality of edge fixing members according to the width of the electrode substrate.

[0023] The above position adjustment unit may include a moving axis connected to each of the plurality of edge fixing members and a servo motor provided to move the plurality of edge fixing members in the width direction.

[0024] The above electrode manufacturing device further includes a vision unit configured to detect width information of the coated portion and the uncoated portion of the electrode substrate, and the control unit can control the position adjustment unit to reposition the plurality of edge fixing members according to the width information of the electrode substrate.

[0025] To achieve the aforementioned objective, according to another embodiment of the present invention, an electrode manufacturing method for transporting an electrode substrate using the electrode manufacturing device is provided, comprising: a sensing step in which a tension sensing unit detects the tension of the electrode substrate; a judgment step in which a control unit determines whether the detected tension is smaller than a preset reference value; and a control step in which, if the detected tension is smaller than the reference value, the control unit stops the rotation of the guide roller and operates a plurality of edge fixing members to grip the edge of the electrode substrate.

[0026] The electrode substrate may include a coated portion coated with an active material and an uncoated portion formed on both edges of the coated portion and not coated with an active material, and the control step may control the plurality of edge fixing members to grip only the uncoated portion.

[0027] The above control step can control a plurality of edge fixing members, each spaced apart at the upper and lower ends of one side and the other side edges in the width direction of the electrode substrate, to simultaneously grip and fix the edges of the electrode substrate in the upper and lower directions.

[0028] The above control step may further include a position adjustment step for adjusting the position of the plurality of edge fixing members according to the width of the electrode substrate. Effects of the invention

[0029] An electrode manufacturing apparatus and electrode manufacturing method according to one embodiment of the present invention can prevent equipment contamination by an un-dried coating liquid by using a tension sensing unit and an edge fixing member to detect a decrease in tension of the electrode substrate in real time, rapidly stopping the rotation of the guide roller, and gripping the edge of the electrode substrate in order to improve upon the problems of the prior art. In particular, the present invention can prevent contamination of equipment that is difficult to clean even when a wire break occurs inside the drying oven, and can effectively prevent a decrease in productivity caused by cleaning work and loss of raw materials.

[0030] Furthermore, the electrode manufacturing apparatus and method of the present invention can stably fix the electrode substrate while preventing damage to the active material by selectively gripping only the uncoated portion while avoiding the coated portion where the active material is applied to the electrode substrate. This enables safe stopping of transport while maintaining the quality of the electrode.

[0031] In addition, the present invention can secure a more stable fixing force by configuring the edge fixing members to simultaneously grip the electrode substrate in the upper and lower directions. In particular, the edges of the electrode substrate can be stably fixed without damage through square or circular contact surfaces.

[0032] In addition, the present invention can accommodate electrode substrates having various widths through a position adjustment unit, thereby improving device compatibility and process flexibility. Brief explanation of the drawing

[0036] FIG. 3 is a conceptual block diagram showing the configurations of an electrode manufacturing apparatus (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 4 is a conceptual diagram showing the process of an electrode substrate (1) in an electrode manufacturing apparatus (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0037] Referring to FIGS. 3 and 4, an electrode manufacturing device (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a plurality of guide rollers (112), a plurality of edge fixing members (120), and a tension sensing unit (130).

[0038] A plurality of guide rollers (112) are provided along the transport direction (F) to guide the transport of the electrode substrate (1). The plurality of guide rollers (112) can stably transport the electrode substrate (1) supplied from the unwinder (111) to the rewinder (116).

[0039] A plurality of edge fixing members (120) are arranged along the transport direction (F) and are configured to selectively grip and fix the left and right edges of the electrode substrate (1) according to the tension of the electrode substrate (1). That is, the edge fixing members (120) can stop transport by gripping the electrode substrate (1) when the tension of the electrode substrate (1) is unstable.

[0040] The tension sensing unit (130) is provided to detect the tension of the electrode substrate (1). The tension sensing unit (130) includes a tension sensing sensor (134) and can measure the tension applied to the electrode substrate (1) in real time.

[0041] The electrode manufacturing device (100) of the present invention may further include a control unit (140). The control unit (140) may be configured to stop the transport of the electrode substrate (1) by operating the edge fixing members (120) when the tension value of the electrode substrate (1) received from the tension sensing unit (130) is smaller than a preset reference value.

[0042] The control unit (140) may be configured to stop the rotation of the guide roller (112) when the tension value of the electrode substrate (1) received from the tension detection unit (130) is smaller than a preset reference value. The control unit (140) may be configured to include a processing device such as a microchip. Specifically, the control unit (140) may be implemented as a microcontroller unit (MCU) including a central processing unit (CPU), random access memory (RAM), read-only memory (ROM), etc.

[0043] In addition, the control unit (140) incorporates a high-speed analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) to enable fast processing of analog sensor signals and precise motor control.

[0044] Accordingly, the present invention can prevent contamination of the equipment by un-dried coating liquid by using an edge fixing member (120) to quickly grip and fix the electrode substrate (1) when the tension of the electrode substrate (1) decreases below a reference value due to this configuration. In addition, when the edge fixing member (120) is placed inside the drying oven (170), the present invention can prevent contamination of the equipment, which is difficult to clean, even when a wire break occurs inside the drying oven (170), and can effectively prevent a decrease in productivity due to cleaning work and loss of raw materials.

[0045] FIG. 5 is a partial perspective view schematically showing the appearance of some components of an electrode manufacturing device (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 6 and FIG. 7 are partial side views schematically showing the appearance of some components of an electrode manufacturing device (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention. For reference, in the drawings, the transport direction of the electrode substrate (1) can be the X-axis direction, the width direction (Y-axis direction) of the electrode substrate (1) can be the Y-axis direction, and the direction perpendicular to the surface of the electrode substrate (1) can be the Z-axis direction.

[0046] Referring to FIGS. 5 to 7, the electrode substrate (1) of the present invention may include a coated portion (2) on which an active material is applied, and an uncoated portion (3) formed on both edges of the coated portion (2) on which the active material is not applied. Here, a plurality of edge fixing members (120) may be provided to grip only the uncoated portion (3).

[0047] Accordingly, the present invention can prevent damage to the active material by not applying a gripping force to the coating portion (2) through this configuration, and can stably fix the electrode substrate (1) by selectively gripping only the uncoated portion (3).

[0048] Additionally, an upper coater (162) and a lower coater (164) may be positioned along the transfer path (F) of the electrode substrate (1). Each of the upper coater (162) and the lower coater (164) may apply a coating solution containing an electrode active material to the upper and lower surfaces of the electrode substrate (1). At this time, the two edge regions of the electrode substrate (1) may be formed as uncoated areas (3) where the coating solution is not applied. Also, the edge fixing member (120) may be positioned downstream of the upper coater (162) and the lower coater (164) in the transfer path.

[0049] After the coating process, the electrode substrate (1) passes through a drying oven (170) to dry the applied coating liquid. Subsequently, the electrode substrate (1) passes through an inspection unit (180) to inspect the coating quality.

[0050] The first and second fixing members (121, 122) may include a plurality of first fixing members (121-1, 121-2) spaced apart at the upper and lower ends of one edge in the width direction (Y-axis direction) of the electrode substrate (1), and a plurality of second fixing members (122-1, 122-2) spaced apart at the upper and lower ends of the other edge in the width direction (Y-axis direction) of the electrode substrate (1). The first fixing members (121-1, 121-2) and the second fixing members (122-1, 122-2) may be provided to simultaneously grip and fix the edge of the electrode substrate (1) in the up-down direction (Z-axis direction).

[0051] Accordingly, the present invention can secure a more stable fixing force by fixing the electrode substrate (1) by gripping the edge of the electrode substrate (1) in the up-down direction (Z-axis direction) through this configuration.

[0052] FIG. 8 is a partial side view schematically showing the appearance of some components of an electrode manufacturing device (100) according to another embodiment of the present invention.

[0053] Referring to FIG. 8, the first fixing members (121-1, 121-2) and the second fixing members (122-1, 122-2) may have a square contact surface. That is, the square contact surface can grip the unmarked portion (3) at the edge of the electrode substrate (1) with as large an area as possible, so it may be suitable.

[0054] Alternatively, the first fixing members (121-1, 121-2) and the second fixing members (122-1, 122-2) may have a curved contact surface. Specifically, the circular fixing member (121A) may include an upper circular fixing member (121-1A) and a lower circular fixing member (121-2A). However, the upper circular fixing member (121-1A) and the lower circular fixing member (121-2A) may be arranged so as not to rotate in order to prevent the progress of the electrode substrate (1) in the transport direction (F).

[0055] Therefore, the present invention can stably grip and fix the edge of the electrode substrate (1) without damage through this configuration.

[0056] The control unit (140) can control the first and second edge fixing members (121, 122) to simultaneously fix the edge of the electrode substrate (1) when the tension value of the electrode substrate (1) received from the tension detection unit (130) is smaller than a preset reference value. That is, when the tension decreases below the reference value, the control unit (140) can immediately operate the first and second fixing members (121, 122) to stop the transfer of the electrode substrate (1).

[0057] The tension detection unit (130) includes a tension detection sensor (134), and the tension detection sensor (134) quantifies the tension value applied to the electrode substrate (1) and transmits it to the control unit (140). The control unit (140) monitors in real time when this value decreases below a preset reference value and controls the operation of the fixing member (120).

[0058] The electrode manufacturing device (100) of the present invention may further include a position adjustment unit (150) provided to adjust the position of edge first and second fixing members (121, 122) according to the width of the electrode substrate (1). The position adjustment unit (150) may include a movable axis (152a) connected to each of the fixing members and a servo motor (152) provided to move a plurality of edge fixing members in the width direction. The servo motor (152) can move the movable axis (152a) in the Y-axis direction to move each of the first and second fixing members (121, 122) in the width direction (Y-axis direction) of the electrode substrate (1).

[0059] Additionally, the electrode manufacturing device (100) of the present invention may further include a vision unit (170) provided to detect width information of the coated portion (2) and the uncoated portion (3) of the electrode substrate (1). The vision unit (170) can measure the width of the coated portion (2) and the uncoated portion (3) by photographing the electrode substrate (1) in real time. The control unit (140) can control the position adjustment unit (150) to reposition the edge first and second fixing members (121, 122) according to the width information of the electrode substrate (1).

[0060] Accordingly, the present invention can accommodate electrode substrates (1) having various widths through this configuration, thereby improving the compatibility of the device, and can automatically adjust the positions of the first and second fixing members (121, 122) according to the change in width of the electrode substrate (1), thereby improving the efficiency of the process.

[0061] FIG. 9 is a flowchart showing the steps of an electrode manufacturing method (200) according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0062] Referring to FIG. 9, an electrode manufacturing method (200) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a sensing step (M01), a judgment step (M02), and a control step (M03).

[0063] In the detection step (M01), the tension detection unit (130) detects the tension of the electrode substrate (1). The tension detection unit (130) can measure the tension applied to the electrode substrate (1) in real time through the tension detection sensor (134).

[0064] In the judgment step (M02), the control unit (140) determines whether the detected tension is smaller than a preset reference value. That is, the control unit (140) can determine the transfer state of the electrode substrate (1) by comparing the signal received from the tension detection unit (130) with the reference value.

[0065] In the control step (M03), if the detected tension is less than the reference value, the control unit (140) stops the rotation of the guide roller (112) and operates the plurality of edge first and second fixing members (121, 122) to stop the transport of the electrode substrate (1). At this time, the edge first and second fixing members (121, 122) can be controlled to grip only the untouched portion (3) of the electrode substrate (1).

[0066] Accordingly, the present invention can prevent contamination of equipment by un-dried coating liquid by detecting a decrease in tension of the electrode substrate (1) in real time and responding quickly by this method. In addition, the present invention can prevent contamination of equipment that is difficult to clean, especially when a wire break occurs inside the drying oven (170), and can effectively prevent a decrease in productivity due to cleaning work and loss of raw materials.

[0067] In the control step (M03), control is performed by taking into account the structural features of the electrode substrate (1). The electrode substrate (1) includes a coated portion (2) on which an active material is applied and a non-coated portion (3) formed on both edges of the coated portion (2) on which the active material is not applied. At this time, the control unit (140) controls the edge first and second fixing members (121, 122) to grip only the non-coated portion (3).

[0068] The control step (M03) can control a plurality of edge fixing members, each spaced apart at the upper and lower ends of one side and the other side edges in the width direction (Y-axis direction) of the electrode substrate (1), to simultaneously grip and fix the edges of the electrode substrate (1) in the up-down direction (Z-axis direction).

[0069] Additionally, the control step (M03) may further include a position adjustment step (M04) for adjusting the positions of the first and second edge fixing members (121, 122) according to the width of the electrode substrate (1). In the position adjustment step (M04), the position adjustment unit (150) can drive a servo motor (152) to adjust the positions of the fixing members.

[0070] Accordingly, the present invention can accommodate electrode substrates (1) of various specifications through this configuration, thereby improving process flexibility.

[0071] In the position adjustment step (M04), the control unit (140) receives width information of the coated portion (2) and the uncoated portion (3) of the electrode substrate (1) from the vision unit (170), and can control the position adjustment unit (150) to readjust the positions of the edge first and second fixing members (121, 122) based on this. This allows the positions of the fixing members to be automatically adjusted to each width when electrode substrates having different widths are supplied sequentially.

[0072] FIG. 10 is a partial cross-sectional view showing the appearance of an electrode assembly (320) to which an electrode manufactured through the electrode manufacturing device (100) of the present invention is applied. FIG. 11 is a plan view showing a secondary battery (300) to which the electrode assembly is applied.

[0073] Referring to FIGS. 10 and 11, a secondary battery (300) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes an electrode assembly (320) comprising an electrode manufactured by the electrode manufacturing apparatus (100) and electrode manufacturing method (200) of the present invention.
