Description

Technology Field

[0001] The present invention relates to a foldable variable stroke treatment device, and more specifically, to a foldable variable stroke treatment device capable of mirror treatment of the upper or lower limbs and capable of being folded for storage. Background Technology

[0002] Stroke refers to neurological symptoms that occur when a part of the brain is damaged due to a blockage or rupture of blood vessels supplying that area. It is known that most patients develop hemiplegia after a stroke, and approximately 70% suffer from persistent cognitive impairment due to brain damage. In particular, lower limb function is crucial for carrying out daily activities after a stroke; since damage to lower limb function restricts basic movements such as walking, balance, and standing, restoring lower limb function is vital during the rehabilitation and recovery process.

[0003] Mirror Therapy is a therapeutic intervention that utilizes visual information superimposed onto the paralyzed limb through mirror reflections of non-paretic movements. It is one of the treatments based on the principles of neural plasticity. This is an intervention method for hemiplegic patients that can improve the function of the paralyzed side by inducing the illusion that the paralyzed side is moving as the normal side is reflected in the mirror and moved. Mirror Therapy is known to aid in overall cognitive recovery, including the promotion of neural plasticity, improvement of attention, and enhancement of spatial perception.

[0004] However, existing mirror therapy devices have several limitations. Most existing devices are made of wood, making them large and heavy, which makes them difficult to move. Additionally, since treatment must be applied separately for the upper and lower extremities, different types of mirrors are required depending on the posture. Furthermore, their large size makes storage difficult, which limits their use at home. Consequently, there are disadvantages such as reduced accessibility and continuity of treatment, as well as low cost-effectiveness.

[0005] Therefore, there is a need to develop a new type of mirror therapy device that can be used on both the upper and lower limbs, is easy to move and store, and can be used effectively even in limited spaces. Prior art literature
