AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing aqueous film compositions for silicone rubber surfaces, particularly for airbag coatings, fail to form uniform films without defects when applied thinly (30 μm or less), leading to issues like pitting and increased friction/blocking, and react with base coats upon high-temperature aging, causing deterioration.

Method used

An aqueous film-forming composition using a combination of ionic and nonionic emulsifiers with a polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene copolymer and specific polyorganosiloxane emulsion, along with solid lubricants and clay minerals, to create a uniform, friction-reducing dry film on silicone rubber surfaces.

Benefits of technology

The composition achieves a uniform, defect-free film with reduced friction and blocking, even at low thickness, and maintains stability over time without reacting with base coats, ensuring long-term performance.

Abstract

[Problem] A water-based film-forming composition is provided that can uniformly cover the silicone rubber surface without causing pitting or coating defects even when applied to the silicone rubber surface with a film thickness of 30 μm or less, and forms a gamma-type dry film that reduces friction and / or blocking of the substrate surface. [Solution] An aqueous film-forming composition and its use (particularly including airbag coatings), comprising (A) a solid lubricant, (B) a thickener, and (C) a silicone-based binder in the form of an aqueous-water type silicone emulsion containing (c1) an ionic emulsifier and (c2) a polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene copolymer type nonionic emulsifier, wherein upon removal of moisture, a gamma dry film is formed comprising 40 to 80 mass% of the above (A) component, 0.50 to 10 mass% of the above (B) component, 0.60 to 5 mass% of the above (c2) component, and 5 to 49.5 mass% of the above (C) component (solid content).
