Abstract

The present invention relates to fingerprint registration and fingerprint recognition technology and an electronic device for performing the same. The electronic device may include: a display module; a fingerprint recognition module included in the display module; a signal processing unit that detects a fingerprint input in a fingerprint recognition area through the fingerprint recognition module; and a control unit that, if the fingerprint input is a rotated fingerprint, processes the input characteristics of the rotated fingerprint together with an input image of the rotated fingerprint into personalized information and stores it in a storage unit, loads the personalized information from the storage unit upon an authentication request for the rotated fingerprint, and outputs a fingerprint authentication result according to whether the input image of the rotated fingerprint and the input characteristics of the rotated fingerprint resulting from the authentication request match the personalized information.
