Abstract
Description
Technology Field
[0001] The present invention relates to an unwinding device for manufacturing a secondary battery and an energy storage system including the same. More specifically, the invention relates to an unwinding device for manufacturing a secondary battery and an energy storage system including the same, wherein deformation of a coating substrate can be minimized during the unwinding process in a roll-to-roll process for manufacturing a secondary battery. Background Technology
[0002] Generally, a secondary battery refers to a battery capable of repeated charging and discharging, such as a lithium-ion battery, a lithium-polymer battery, a nickel-cadmium battery, a nickel-hydrogen battery, or a nickel-zinc battery. Such secondary batteries can be manufactured by a process involving an electrode assembly comprising a positive electrode and a negative electrode stacked with an insulating separator in between, housing an electrolyte material in a case of various shapes, and sealing the case.
[0003] In addition, the electrodes and separators of secondary batteries can be manufactured using a roll-to-roll process. That is, while unwinding and transporting a substrate in the form of a strip wound in a roll, coating, drying, roll pressing, slitting, and notching processes can be continuously performed in-line on the substrate. In this roll-to-roll method, winding and unwinding processes can be performed for each respective process.
[0004] In particular, after the slitting process, a process of unwinding the electrode reel on which the processed substrate is wound is required to perform a notching process. During this process, as time passes, the amount of electrode (or substrate, semi-processed coating substrate, hereinafter collectively referred to as coating substrate) wound on the electrode reel inevitably decreases, and the angle of movement of the coating substrate moving from the electrode reel to the transfer roller (or the angle of approach of the substrate toward the transfer roller) inevitably changes. When the angle of movement of the unwinding coating substrate changes in this way, the degree of bending (folding) of the coating substrate held in the transfer section changes, and consequently, there is a problem of causing deformation of the coating substrate. That is, with respect to a single transfer roller, the degree of bending formed by the discharged substrate and the substrate moving from the electrode reel toward the transfer roller may increase. In particular, this phenomenon tends to be intensified at the first transfer roller. This bending phenomenon increases the likelihood of wrinkles forming in the electrode blank area and prevents the tab from being formed uniformly in the electrode blank area due to the wrinkles, which can lead to folding, damage, and defects of the tab during the subsequent notching process. The problem to be solved
[0005] The present invention was devised in consideration of the above-mentioned problems, and the objective of the present invention is to provide an unwinding device for manufacturing a secondary battery and a secondary battery manufacturing system including the same, which can minimize deformation of a coating substrate by reducing the change in the movement angle of the coating substrate moving from the unwinder to the first transfer roll.
[0006] The technical problems that the present invention aims to solve are not limited to those described above, and other unmentioned problems will be clearly understood by those skilled in the art from the description of the invention below. means of solving the problem
[0007] An unwinding device for manufacturing a secondary battery according to the present invention for solving the above problem may include: an unwinder that unwinds a coating substrate wound in a roll shape by rotating it around a rotation axis; a transfer unit including a first transfer roll positioned closest to the unwinder; and a correction unit provided on the rotation axis and correcting the position of the rotation axis relative to the first transfer roll.
[0008] The above correction unit can move the position of the rotation axis in a first direction so that the entry angle of the coating substrate, formed from the first transfer roll to the outer surface of the coating substrate wound on the unwinder, is formed within a preset range.
[0009] It may further include a sensor unit that detects the distance to the outer surface of the electrode reel, which is the wound coating substrate.
[0010] The sensor unit can sense the thickness of the wound coating substrate by detecting the distance of the outer surface of the electrode reel that changes while the coating substrate is being unwound.
[0011] The above correction unit may further include a lifting frame; and an up / down driving unit connected to the lifting frame and driving the rotation axis up / down in the first direction.
[0012] The above lifting frame may be provided with a hub bearing to which the rotation axis is rotatably coupled.
[0013] The above unwinder further includes a support frame, and the support frame may have an elongated hole formed therein to allow the rotation axis to move up / down.
[0014] The sensor unit may be provided on the support frame.
[0015] The sensor unit above can measure the flight time of light reflected by being irradiated onto the outer surface of the electrode reel.
[0016] The above up / down drive unit may be a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder.
[0017] According to another embodiment, the transfer unit may further include a transfer roll correction unit that corrects the position of the transfer unit in a second direction.
[0018] Here, the transfer roll correction unit may include a correction rod rotatably connected to the first transfer roll; and a rod driving unit that drives the correction rod to advance or retract in the second direction.
[0019] In addition, according to the present invention, a secondary battery manufacturing system comprising the above-described unwinding device for manufacturing a secondary battery may be provided. Effects of the invention
[0020] According to one aspect of the present invention, even if the amount of coating substrate wound on the unwinder is reduced, the rotation axis of the unwinder relative to the transfer section is corrected, thereby reducing the change in the movement angle of the coating substrate moving from the unwinder to the first transfer roll, so that deformation of the coating substrate can be minimized.
[0021] In addition, according to one aspect of the present invention, while the wound coating substrate is being unwound, the sensor unit moves the rotation axis in correspondence with the amount of the coating substrate wound, thereby minimizing the degree of bending formed by the discharged substrate and the substrate moving from the electrode reel toward the transfer roller relative to the first transfer roll, and accordingly, folding, damage, and defects of the tab during the notching process can be reduced.
[0022] The effects of the present invention are not limited to the effects described above, and unmentioned effects will be clearly understood by those skilled in the art from this specification and the attached drawings. Brief explanation of the drawing

Specific details for implementing the invention
[0024] Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings. Prior to this, terms and words used in this specification and claims should not be interpreted as being limited to their ordinary or dictionary meanings, and should be interpreted in a meaning and concept consistent with the technical spirit of the present invention, based on the principle that the inventor can appropriately define the concept of the terms to best describe his invention.
[0025] Therefore, it should be understood that the embodiments described in this specification and the configurations illustrated in the drawings are merely some of the most preferred embodiments of the invention and do not represent all of the technical ideas of the invention, and that various equivalents and modifications that can replace them may exist at the time of filing this application.
[0027] FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram illustrating a side portion of an unwinding device for manufacturing a secondary battery according to one embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 2 is a schematic diagram illustrating a front portion of an unwinding device for manufacturing a secondary battery according to one embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 3 is a partial enlarged view of FIG. 2.
[0028] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 3, an unwinding device (10) for manufacturing a secondary battery according to one embodiment of the present invention may include an unwinder (100), a transfer unit (200) including a first transfer roll (210), a sensor unit (300), and a correction unit (400).
[0029] The above unwinder (100) may be configured to unwind the coating substrate (M). The coating substrate (M) may be a metal foil corresponding to the current collector of an electrode, or a porous polymer substrate corresponding to the insulator of a separator. Alternatively, the coating substrate (M) may be an electrode or an electrode sheet on which an electrode active material is coated and dried on the aforementioned substrate. In this embodiment, it may be an electrode sheet that has been slit for a notching process.
[0030] The above unwinder (100) can unwind a coating substrate (M) wound in a roll shape by rotating it around a rotation axis (120). Specifically, the above unwinder (100) may include a support frame (110) and a rotation axis (120) rotatably coupled to the support frame (110).
[0031] The support frames (110) may be arranged in pairs spaced apart by a predetermined width formed by the wound coating substrate (M). A rotation axis (120) may be rotatably coupled between the pair of support frames (110). An elongated hole (111) may be formed in the support frames (110) to allow the rotation axis (120) to move up and down. Through the elongated hole (111), movement in a first direction of the rotation axis (120) may be possible. For example, the first direction may be an up-down direction or a vertical direction. On the other hand, movement of the rotation axis (120) in other directions (e.g., the Y-axis direction) may be restricted by the elongated hole (111).
[0032] A sensor unit (300) may be disposed on such a support frame (110). The sensor unit (300) may be disposed in the center of a pair of support frames (110) spaced apart by a predetermined width.
[0033] The above-mentioned rotating shaft (120) may be positioned on the above-mentioned slot (111), and a coating substrate (M) produced by winding a strip-shaped secondary battery substrate may be wound on the above-mentioned rotating shaft (120). Here, the part where the coating substrate (M) is wound is called an electrode reel (MR), and the electrode reel (MR) may be coupled to the above-mentioned rotating shaft (120). The coating substrate (M) unwound from the electrode reel (MR) may be transported in the MD (Machine Direction) direction by the first transfer roll (210). For example, the electrode reel (MR) on which the coating substrate (M) that has undergone a slitting process is wound may be unwound through the above-mentioned unwinder (100), transported in the MD direction, and fed into a notching process or notching equipment.
[0034] The above-mentioned transfer unit (200) may be a part that transfers an unwound coating substrate (M). To this end, the above-mentioned transfer unit (200) may include a plurality of transfer rolls. The above-mentioned transfer unit (200) includes a plurality of transfer rolls, and the plurality of transfer rolls are arranged sequentially in succession so that the unwound coating substrate (M) can be continuously unwound and supplied to subsequent equipment. In the drawing, only the first transfer roll (210) is shown, and other transfer rolls are omitted.
[0035] The above transfer unit (200) may include a first transfer roll (210) positioned in close proximity to the unwinder (100). The first transfer roll (210) may be the first contact point for the coating substrate (M) that has been unwound and released from the electrode reel (MR). Depending on the relative position of the first transfer roll (210) with respect to the rotation axis (120) of the unwinder (100), the movement path of the coating sheet unwound from the electrode reel (MR) may change, and the entry angle of the coating substrate (M) with respect to the first transfer roll (210) may change.
[0036] The sensor unit (300) may be a part that detects the distance to the outer surface of the coating substrate (M). The sensor unit (300) can sense the thickness of the wound coating substrate (M) by detecting the distance to the outer surface of the coating substrate (M) that changes while the coating substrate (M) is being unwound. That is, the sensor unit (300) can sense the thickness of the wound coating substrate (M) by measuring the distance to the outermost surface of the wound coating substrate (M), i.e., the electrode reel (MR).
[0037] The above correction unit (400) is provided on the rotation axis (120) and may be a part that corrects the position of the rotation axis (120) relative to the first transfer roll (210). The correction unit (400) can move the position of the rotation axis (120) in a first direction (Z-axis direction) so that the entry angle of the coating substrate (M), formed from the first transfer roll (210) to the outer surface of the coating substrate (M) wound on the unwinder (100), is formed within a preset range.
[0038] That is, during the unwinding process, the thickness of the electrode reel (MR) is reduced, and accordingly, the movement path of the coating sheet unwound from the electrode reel (MR) changes, and the entry angle of the coating substrate (M) with respect to the first transfer roll (210) can be changed. The correction unit (400) can move the rotation axis (120) engaged with the electrode reel (MR) downward in the first direction so that the entry angle of the coating substrate (M) is formed within a preset range.
[0039] Through this configuration, the change in the movement angle (α) of the coating substrate (M) moving from the unwinder (100) to the first transfer roll (210) can be reduced, thereby minimizing deformation of the coating substrate (M).
[0041] The sensor unit (300) and correction unit (400) described above will be explained in detail below.
[0042] FIG. 4 is a drawing showing an unwinding device for manufacturing a secondary battery according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0043] It is necessary to detect whether the amount of coating substrate (M) wound on the unwinder (100) is reduced, or whether the thickness of the electrode reel (MR) is reduced. Accordingly, a sensor unit (300) may be provided in the unwinding device (10) for manufacturing a secondary battery in this embodiment.
[0044] Referring again to FIG. 3, FIG. 1, and FIG. 2, the sensor unit (300) may be provided on the support frame (110). This sensor unit (300) may be a distance sensing sensor. The sensor unit (300) may measure the Time of Flight (TOF) of light reflected by being irradiated onto the outer surface of the wound coating substrate (M), i.e., the electrode reel (MR). It may be configured to detect the distance to the outer surface of the electrode reel (MR) at a predetermined position while the electrode reel (MR) is being unwound from the unwinder (100).
[0045] Meanwhile, the movement angle (α) of the coating substrate (M) that moves between the electrode reel (MR) and the transfer unit (200), particularly the first transfer roll (210), changes as the radius of the electrode reel (MR) decreases over time. Accordingly, it is necessary to correct the rotation axis (120) of the unwinder (100) with respect to the transfer unit (200).
[0046] The above correction unit (400) may be configured to correct the position of the rotation axis (120) that supports and rotates the electrode reel (MR) according to the distance detected by the sensor unit (300).
[0047] Specifically, the correction unit (400) may include a lifting frame (410); and an up / down driving unit (420) connected to the lifting frame (410) to drive the rotation axis (120) up / down in the first direction.
[0048] The lifting frame (410) may be configured to support the rotation axis (120) of the unwinder (100). The lifting frame (410) may be provided with a hub bearing to which the rotation axis (120) is rotatably coupled. Accordingly, the lifting frame (410) may rotatably support the rotation axis (120).
[0049] The above lifting frame (410) can be moved up / down in the first direction (Z-axis direction).
[0050] The up / down drive unit (420) may be a part that drives the lifting frame (410) up / down in a first direction. The up / down drive unit (420) may be configured to correct the position of the rotation axis (120) supporting the electrode reel (MR) by changing the position of the lifting frame (410) in response to the amount of change in distance detected by the sensor unit (300). In this embodiment, the up / down drive unit (420) may be a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder.
[0051] According to the present embodiment, even if the amount of coating substrate (M) of the electrode reel (MR) wound on the unwinder (100) is reduced, the rotation axis (120) of the unwinder (100) relative to the transfer unit (200) is corrected, thereby reducing the change in the movement angle (α) of the coating substrate (M) moving from the unwinder (100) to the first transfer roll (210), so that deformation of the coating substrate (M) can be minimized.
[0052] Additionally, while the wound coating substrate (M) is being unwound, the sensor unit (300) moves the rotation axis (120) in correspondence with the amount of the coating substrate (M) wound, thereby minimizing the degree of bending formed by the discharged substrate and the coating substrate (M) moving from the electrode reel (MR) toward the first transfer roll (210) relative to the first transfer roll (210), and accordingly, folding, damage, and defects of the tab during the notching process can be reduced.
[0054] The correction operation of the above correction unit (400) is described in more detail below.
[0055] FIG. 5 is a diagram showing the correction operation of an unwinding device for manufacturing a secondary battery according to one embodiment of the present invention.
[0056] Referring again to FIG. 4, the electrode reel (MR) is engaged with the rotation axis (120), and the unwinder (100) can unwind the electrode reel (MR) by rotating it around the rotation axis (120). When the electrode reel (MR) is unwinded by rotating it around the rotation axis (120), the unwinded coating substrate (M) can be transported in the MD (Machine Direction) direction by the first transfer roll (210).
[0057] While the electrode reel (MR) is being unwound, the sensor unit (300) can detect the distance to the outer surface of the electrode reel (MR) at a predetermined position. For example, the sensor unit (300) can be positioned parallel to the rotation axis (120) of the unwinder (100) in the Z-axis direction to detect the distance to the outer surface of the electrode reel (MR).
[0058] Referring to FIG. 5, as time progresses, the radius of the electrode reel (MR) decreases, and the distance detected by the sensor unit (300) increases. The time of flight (TOF) of the light reflected by being irradiated onto the outer surface of the wound coating substrate (M) is measured.
[0059] The above correction unit (400) can correct the position of the rotation axis (120) that supports and rotates the electrode reel (MR) according to the distance detected by the sensor unit (300) (120). That is, the up / down drive unit (420) of the above correction unit (400) changes the position of the lifting frame (410) in response to the amount of change in distance detected by the sensor unit (300). The position of the rotation axis (120) can be corrected by driving in a first direction to move the lifting frame (410) downward slightly. For example, the above correction unit (400) can move the rotation axis (120) in the -Z axis direction so that the outer surface of the electrode reel (MR) is located within a predetermined range with respect to the Z direction in the drawing.
[0060] According to the present embodiment, even if the amount of coating substrate (M) of the electrode reel (MR) wound on the unwinder (100) is reduced, the rotation axis (120) of the unwinder (100) relative to the transfer unit (200) is corrected, thereby reducing the change in the movement angle (α) of the coating substrate (M) moving from the unwinder (100) to the first transfer roll (210), so that deformation of the coating substrate (M) can be minimized.
[0061] Additionally, while the wound coating substrate (M) is being unwound, the sensor unit (300) moves the rotation axis (120) in correspondence with the amount of the coating substrate (M) wound, thereby minimizing the degree of bending formed by the discharged substrate and the coating substrate (M) moving from the electrode reel (MR) toward the first transfer roll (210) relative to the first transfer roll (210), and accordingly, folding, damage, and defects of the tab during the notching process can be reduced.
[0063] FIG. 6 is a drawing illustrating the state of an electrode that has been unwound and moved by a conventional unwinder, and FIG. 7 is a drawing showing the state of an electrode that has been unwound and moved according to the present invention.
[0064] As shown in FIG. 6(a), in the case of an electrode that is unwound and transported from an electrode reel (MR) in which a strip-shaped electrode is wound into a roll shape at the beginning of the roll-to-roll process, the degree of bending at the first transport roll (210) is not large, so no wrinkles occur in the electrode unwound portion.
[0065] On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 6(b), in the case of an electrode unwound and transported from an electrode reel (MR) with a reduced radius as the roll-to-roll process proceeds, the degree of bending at the transport roller increases, causing wrinkles to form on the electrode blank due to the bending. As a result, it can be observed that folding or damage occurs to the tab provided on the electrode blank, which may lead to a decrease in the yield and quality of the electrode.
[0066] In the case of an electrode that is unwound and transported from the electrode roll at the beginning of the roll-to-roll process, the degree of bending at the first transport roll (210) is not large, so wrinkles do not occur in the electrode blank area as shown in FIG. 7 (a).
[0067] In addition, even when the radius of the electrode roll decreases as the roll-to-roll process proceeds, the correction unit (400) takes into account the reduced thickness of the electrode reel (MR) and corrects the position of the electrode reel (MR) by moving the height of the rotation axis (120) in the -Z axis direction. As a result, the degree of bending of the coating substrate (M) at the first transfer roll (210) is maintained as it was initially, so wrinkles do not occur in the electrode-free portion as shown in FIG. 7 (b). Accordingly, folding, damage, and defects of the tab can be reduced during the notching process.
[0069] Next, other embodiments of the unwinding device for manufacturing a secondary battery according to the present invention will be briefly described with reference to FIGS. 8 and 9.
[0070] FIG. 8 is a schematic diagram illustrating a first transfer roll and a transfer roll correction unit in an unwinding device for manufacturing a secondary battery according to another embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 9 is a diagram showing the correction operation of the transfer roll correction unit in an unwinding device for manufacturing a secondary battery according to another embodiment of the present invention.
[0071] Reference numbers identical to those in previous drawings indicate identical components. Duplicate descriptions of identical components will be omitted, and the explanation will focus on the differences from the previously described embodiments.
[0072] Referring to FIGS. 8 and 9, in an unwinding device for manufacturing a secondary battery according to another embodiment of the present invention, a transfer roll correction unit (220) may be provided in the transfer section (200).
[0073] The above transfer roll correction unit (220) can correct the position of the transfer unit (200) in a second direction. Specifically, the transfer roll correction unit (220) may include a correction rod (221) rotatably connected to the first transfer roll (210); and a rod driving unit (222) that drives the correction rod (221) forward or backward in the second direction.
[0074] The above correction rod (221) can position the first transfer roll (210) in a second direction according to the degree of extension. Additionally, the correction rod (221) can be driven by the rod driving unit (222). In the drawing, the correction rod (221) is extended so that the first transfer roll (210) can be moved upward to the right. At this time, there is no movement of the rotation axis (120).
[0075] In this way, by correcting the position of the first transfer roll (210), the change in the movement angle (α) of the coating substrate (M) moving from the unwinder (100) to the first transfer roll (210) can be reduced, thereby minimizing deformation of the coating substrate (M).
[0076] For example, the correction unit (400) moves the rotation axis (120) to which the electrode reel (MR) is attached in a first direction, but when excessive displacement of the rotation axis (120) needs to be corrected, the correction unit (400) is burdened. In addition, since the weight of the electrode reel (MR) itself may be considerable, there may be limitations to the correction work performed by the correction unit (400).
[0077] On the other hand, if the position of the first transfer roll (210) according to the present embodiment can be adjusted in a second direction, the deformation of the coating substrate (M) can be minimized by reducing the change in the movement angle (α) of the coating substrate (M) moving to the first transfer roll (210) without moving the position of the rotation axis (120). Alternatively, although not shown in the drawing, a case in which the correction unit (400) moves with a smaller displacement movement in conjunction with the operation of the transfer roll correction unit (220) can be considered. Accordingly, the degree of bending formed by the coating substrate (M) moving from the electrode reel (MR) toward the first transfer roll (210) can be minimized, and consequently, folding, damage, and defects of the tab during the notching process can be reduced.
[0079] Meanwhile, a secondary battery manufacturing system according to one embodiment of the present invention includes the above-described unwinding device (10) for manufacturing a secondary battery.
[0080] According to an embodiment, the secondary battery manufacturing system may further include one or more devices among a coating material manufacturing device, a coating device, a drying device, a rolling device, a slitting device, and a notching device.
[0081] The above coating material manufacturing device may be configured to manufacture a coating material by mixing it to form an electrode active layer where an actual electrochemical reaction occurs at the electrode.
[0082] For example, when the electrode to be manufactured is a wet electrode, the coating material manufacturing device may be configured to produce an electrode mixture in the form of a fluid slurry by mixing the electrode active material, which is an essential element of the electrode, other additives such as a conductive material and a filler, a binder for binding between powders and adhesion to a current collector, and a solvent for imparting viscosity and dispersing powders, as the coating material.
[0083] On the other hand, when the electrode to be manufactured is a dry electrode, the coating material mixing device may be configured to produce an electrode composite in a powder state by mixing a conductive material, a filler, a binder, etc., together with an electrode active material as a coating material. In this case, the secondary battery manufacturing system may not include the drying device.
[0084] The coating device described above may be configured to apply the coating material to an electrode foil corresponding to a current collector. When the electrode to be manufactured is a dry electrode, the coating device may include a calendering roll that calenders a coating material in a powder state to produce a free-standing type electrode film, and a laminating roll that presses and attaches the electrode film to the surface of the electrode foil.
[0085] The above drying device is applied when the electrode to be manufactured is a wet electrode and can be configured to dry a coating material applied to an electrode foil. When the electrode to be manufactured is a dry electrode, the above drying device may be omitted.
[0086] The above rolling device may be configured to control the thickness of the coating layer by performing a roll pressing process on an electrode on which a coating layer is formed.
[0087] The above slitting device may be configured to slit a coated electrode.
[0088] The above notching device may be configured to form a notch in the unslit portion of the slit electrode.
[0089] As described above, according to the present invention, while the wound substrate is being unwound, a distance sensor detects the distance to the outer surface of the wound substrate at a predetermined position, and a correction unit (400) corrects the position of the rotation axis (120) according to the distance detected by the distance sensor, thereby allowing the moving angle (α) of the unwound and moving substrate portion to be maintained within a certain range even when the radius of the substrate wound in a roll shape is reduced as it is unwound in a roll-to-roll process for manufacturing a secondary battery, and preventing deformation of the substrate due to a change in the moving angle (α), thereby providing an unwinding device (10) for manufacturing a secondary battery and a secondary battery manufacturing system including the same.
