[0020] FIG. 1 is a schematic drawing illustrating a ship including a cooling system according to one embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 2 is a detailed drawing of a cooling system according to one embodiment of the present invention. Specific details for implementing the invention

[0021] Hereinafter, various embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings so that those skilled in the art can easily implement the present invention. The present invention may be embodied in various different forms and is not limited to the embodiments described herein.

[0022] To clearly explain the present invention, parts unrelated to the explanation have been omitted, and the same reference numerals are used for identical or similar components throughout the specification.

[0023] Then, a cooling system according to one embodiment of the present invention and a ship including the same will be described in detail with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2.

[0024] FIG. 1 is a schematic drawing illustrating a ship including a cooling system according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0025] As illustrated in FIG. 1, a ship according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a hull (S), ship equipment (A), an integrated control system for the ship (IAS), and a cooling system (CS).

[0026] The hull (S) may include various types of hulls, such as the hull of a container ship, the hull of a liquefied gas carrier, and the hull of a crude oil tanker, but is not limited thereto. Additionally, the hull (S) may include not only ships but also offshore structures.

[0027] The ship equipment (A) is a device installed on the hull (S) that performs various functions and may include an engine, a fuel supply device, an inert gas generator (IGG), a ballast water treatment system (BWTS), an alternator, etc. For example, the engine may propel the hull (S) or generate electricity using various fuels such as oil, liquefied gas, etc. The fuel supply device may include a fuel storage tank for storing fuel, a supply pipe for transferring fuel from the fuel storage tank to the engine, etc.

[0028] A ship's Integrated Administration System (IAS) is a system that integrates the ship's cargo handling and equipment operation systems into a single framework, allowing almost all operations to be performed from the Centralized Administration Control Center (CACC). Such an IAS enhances reliability because it can replace a faulty system with another one, and the malfunctioning system does not affect other functioning systems.

[0029] The cooling system (CS) can be connected to the ship equipment (A) and the integrated control system (IAS) for the ship. The cooling system (CS) can cool the ship equipment (A) and can be controlled by the integrated control system (IAS) for the ship.

[0030] In this way, the ship can control the cooling system (CS) in a diverse and flexible manner by controlling the variable frequency driver (VFD) of the cooling system (CS) using the integrated control system (IAS) already installed on the ship, without installing a separate controller to control the variable frequency driver (VFD) that regulates the seawater pump and freshwater pump of the cooling system (CS).

[0031] Hereinafter, a cooling system (CS) according to one embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail.

[0032] FIG. 2 is a detailed drawing of a cooling system according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0033] As illustrated in FIG. 2, a cooling system (CS) according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a heat exchanger (100), a seawater pump (200), a first variable frequency driver (300), a plurality of fresh water usage devices (400), a fresh water pump (500), a second variable frequency driver (600), a temperature control unit (700), a pressure sensing unit (800), a fresh water flow rate control unit (900), a seawater supply pipe (SL), a first fresh water supply pipe (FL1), a second fresh water supply pipe (FL2), and a fresh water recovery pipe (RL).

[0034] A heat exchanger (100) is installed on the hull (S) and can cool fresh water using cold seawater. The heat exchanger (100) may include a plate heat exchanger, etc.

[0035] The seawater pump (200) can provide power to supply seawater to the heat exchanger (100). The seawater pump (200) can control the flow rate of seawater by adjusting the frequency (rpm) of the drive motor.

[0036] The heat exchanger (100) can cool fresh water with a small flow rate as the Logarithmic Mean Temperature Difference (LMTD) increases as the temperature of the seawater decreases. Therefore, when the temperature of the seawater is low, the efficiency of the heat exchanger (100) is improved, and the flow rate of seawater supplied to the heat exchanger (100) through the seawater pump (200) can be reduced, thereby minimizing energy consumption and enabling energy savings.

[0037] The seawater supply pipe (SL) can provide a path to supply seawater to the heat exchanger (100) through the seawater pump (200).

[0038] The first variable frequency driver (300) can control the flow rate of seawater supplied to the heat exchanger (100) through the seawater pump (200) by adjusting the frequency (rpm) of the drive motor of the seawater pump (200). Thus, the power consumption of the seawater pump (200) can be minimized by minimizing the flow rate of seawater.

[0039] The first variable frequency driver (300) can be connected to an integrated control system (IAS) for the ship and controlled by the integrated control system (IAS). Therefore, by controlling the first variable frequency driver (300) of the cooling system (CS) using the integrated control system (IAS) already installed on the ship without installing a separate controller, the cooling system (CS) can be controlled in a diverse and flexible manner regarding the target temperature, target pressure, minimum required flow rate limit, etc.

[0040] A plurality of fresh water usage devices (400) may include an intake cooler (410) for the main engine and a sub fresh water usage device (420).

[0041] An intake cooler (410) for the main engine is installed in the main engine and can cool the intake air (scattering) supplied to the main engine using fresh water.

[0042] The sub-freshwater usage device (420) is a freshwater usage device excluding the intake cooler (410) for the main engine, and may include a first device (421) that operates during the operation of the hull (S) and a second device (422) that does not operate during the operation of the hull (S).

[0043] The first device (421) may include, but is not limited to, an air conditioner for the cabin, a dump condenser / drain cooler, a main air compressor, an N2 generator, an LSMGO cooler for the main engine, an LSMGO cooler for the generator engine, and a cooler for the alternator.

[0044] The second device (422) may include, but is not limited to, a cooler for an inert gas generator (IGG), a dryer for an inert gas generator (IGG), a ballast water treatment device (BWTS), etc.

[0045] Coolers for active gas generators (IGGs) and dryers for inert gas generators (IGGs) are used only before dry docking, and ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) may be used only during cargo loading / unloading.

[0046] The fresh water pump (500) can provide power to supply fresh water cooled in the heat exchanger (100) to the fresh water usage device (400).

[0047] The fresh water pump (500) may include a main fresh water pump (510) and an auxiliary fresh water pump (520).

[0048] The main fresh water pump (510) supplies fresh water to the intake cooler (410) for the main engine to cool the intake air (scorched air) and increase the density of the intake air. This allows for the supply of a large amount of intake air (air) and also removes moisture from the air to increase combustion efficiency. Since the flow rate of the fresh water supplied to the intake cooler (410) for the main engine is constant, the frequency of the main fresh water pump (510) is not adjusted using a separate variable frequency driver.

[0049] The first fresh water supply pipe (FL1) provides a path for supplying cooled fresh water, which passes through the heat exchanger (100), to the intake cooler (410) for the main engine via the main fresh water pump (510). The second fresh water supply pipe (FL2) provides a path for supplying cooled fresh water, which passes through the heat exchanger (100), to the sub-fresh water usage device (420) via the auxiliary fresh water pump (520).

[0050] And, the fresh water recovery pipe (RL) provides a path to supply fresh water that has passed through the sub-fresh water usage device (420) back to the first fresh water supply pipe (FL1), the second fresh water supply pipe (FL2), or the heat exchanger (100).

[0051] The auxiliary fresh water pump (520) can supply fresh water to the sub-fresh water usage device (400). The auxiliary fresh water pump (520) can control the flow rate of fresh water by adjusting the frequency (rpm) of the drive motor.

[0052] The second variable frequency driver (600) is connected to the auxiliary fresh water pump (520) and can adjust the frequency of the auxiliary fresh water pump (520) to control the flow rate of fresh water supplied to the sub-fresh water usage device (420) through the auxiliary fresh water pump (520).

[0053] In this way, by controlling not only the seawater pump (200) but also a part of the freshwater pump (500) (i.e., the auxiliary freshwater pump (520)) using the second variable frequency driver (600), the power used to drive the pump can be reduced.

[0054] The second variable frequency driver (600) can be connected to the integrated control system (IAS) for the ship and controlled by the integrated control system (IAS). Therefore, without installing a separate controller, the second variable frequency driver (600) of the cooling system (CS) can be controlled by utilizing the integrated control system (IAS) already installed on the ship, thereby allowing the cooling system (CS) to be controlled in a diverse and flexible manner.

[0055] The temperature control unit (700) can control the temperature of seawater and fresh water.

[0056] The temperature control unit (700) may include a seawater temperature sensor (710), a first temperature maintenance unit (720), a second temperature maintenance unit (730), and a freshwater temperature sensor (740).

[0057] A seawater temperature sensor (710) can be installed on a seawater supply pipe (SL) connected to the outlet of a seawater pump (200) to measure the temperature of the seawater. This seawater temperature sensor (710) can be connected to an integrated control system (IAS) for the ship and a first variable frequency driver (300). Accordingly, the integrated control system (IAS) for the ship can control the first variable frequency driver (300) according to the seawater temperature measured by the seawater temperature sensor (710) to regulate the flow rate of seawater supplied through the seawater pump (200).

[0058] The first temperature maintaining unit (720) can maintain the temperature of the fresh water supplied to the auxiliary fresh water pump (520) at a first set temperature. For example, the first set temperature can be set to the seawater temperature + 4 degrees, so specifically, if the seawater temperature is 32 degrees, the first set temperature can be 36 degrees.

[0059] The first temperature maintenance unit (720) may include a first fresh water temperature sensor (721) and a first three-way valve (722).

[0060] The first fresh water temperature sensor (721) is installed on the second fresh water supply pipe (FL2) and can measure the temperature of the fresh water supplied to the auxiliary fresh water pump (520).

[0061] The first three-way valve (722) is a valve that provides a path in three directions. When the temperature of the fresh water measured by the first fresh water temperature sensor (721) is below the first set temperature, the first three-way valve (722) can bypass the fresh water and circulate it through the first fresh water supply pipe (FL1) without supplying it to the auxiliary fresh water pump (520). Thus, the temperature of the fresh water supplied to the auxiliary fresh water pump (520) can be maintained at the first set temperature.

[0062] In this way, by maintaining the temperature of the fresh water supplied to the auxiliary fresh water pump (520) from the first temperature maintenance unit (720) at the first set temperature, energy can be saved by adjusting the frequency of the auxiliary fresh water pump (520) while satisfying the low temperature required by the intake cooler (410) for the main engine.

[0063] The second temperature maintenance unit (730) can maintain the temperature of the fresh water supplied to the intake cooler (410) for the main engine at a second set temperature. The second set temperature may be, for example, 10 degrees.

[0064] As the temperature of the fresh water supplied to the intake cooler (410) for the main engine approaches 10 degrees, a large amount of air can be supplied to the main engine, thereby improving the efficiency of the main engine and minimizing fuel consumption. Additionally, if fresh water is supplied to the intake cooler (410) for the main engine at a temperature lower than the second set temperature, there is a possibility that the intake cooler (410) for the main engine will undergo low-temperature corrosion, so this can be prevented.

[0065] The second temperature maintenance unit (730) may include a second fresh water temperature sensor (731) and a second three-way valve (732).

[0066] The second fresh water temperature sensor (731) is installed on the first fresh water supply pipe (FL1) and can measure the temperature of the fresh water supplied to the intake cooler (410) for the main engine.

[0067] The second three-way valve (732) is a valve that provides a path in three directions. When the temperature of the fresh water measured by the second fresh water temperature sensor (731) is below the second set temperature, the second three-way valve (732) can bypass the fresh water and circulate it through the fresh water recovery pipe (RL) without supplying it to the intake cooler (410) for the main engine. Thus, the temperature of the fresh water supplied to the intake cooler (410) for the main engine can be maintained at the second set temperature.

[0068] A fresh water temperature sensor (740) can be installed on a first fresh water supply pipe (FL1) connected between the outlet of the heat exchanger (100) and the main fresh water pump (510) to measure the temperature of the fresh water. This fresh water temperature sensor (740) can be connected to a ship's integrated control system (IAS) and a first variable frequency driver (300). Accordingly, the ship's integrated control system (IAS) can control the first variable frequency driver (300) according to the temperature of the fresh water measured by the fresh water temperature sensor (740) to regulate the flow rate of seawater supplied through the seawater pump (200).

[0069] The pressure sensing unit (800) can measure the pressure of the clean water.

[0070] The pressure sensing unit (800) may include a first fresh water pressure sensor (810) and a second fresh water pressure sensor (820).

[0071] The first fresh water pressure sensor (810) is installed on the second fresh water supply pipe (FL2) connected to the outlet of the auxiliary fresh water pump (520) to measure the pressure of the fresh water.

[0072] A second fresh water pressure sensor (820) is installed on a fresh water recovery pipe (RL) connected to the inlet of a heat exchanger (100) to measure the pressure of the fresh water.

[0073] The first fresh water pressure sensor (810) and the second fresh water pressure sensor (820) can be connected to an integrated control system (IAS) for ships.

[0074] The fresh water flow control unit (900) is installed on the fresh water recovery pipe (RL) connected to the outlet of the second device (422) and can control the flow rate of fresh water supplied to the first three-way valve (722).

[0075] This fresh water flow control unit (900) may include a check valve that controls the flow rate of fresh water by being installed on the fresh water recovery pipe (RL) and turned on / off.

[0076] Since the second device (422) does not operate during the operation of the hull (S), the fresh water flow rate control unit (900) can be used to block the supply of fresh water to the first three-way valve (722), thereby reducing the flow rate of fresh water supplied to the auxiliary fresh water pump (520).

[0077] At this time, the first fresh water pressure sensor (810) and the second fresh water pressure sensor (820) can be used to detect the pressure difference between the inlet of the heat exchanger (100) and the outlet of the auxiliary fresh water pump (520), thereby allowing the frequency of the auxiliary fresh water pump (520) to be adjusted to satisfy the minimum pressure drop applied to the piping. Accordingly, the flow rate of fresh water supplied to the piping with the greatest pressure drop is reduced, thereby reducing the pressure drop. Therefore, the power consumption of the auxiliary fresh water pump (520) can be minimized by reducing the frequency of the auxiliary fresh water pump (520).

[0078] The present invention has been described above with reference to the embodiments illustrated in the drawings. However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and various modifications or other embodiments falling within the scope equivalent to the present invention are possible by those skilled in the art to which the present invention pertains. Accordingly, the true scope of protection of the present invention should be determined by the following claims. Explanation of the symbols
