Description

Technology Field

[0001] The present invention relates to a case for a foldable terminal. Background Technology

[0002] With the recent rapid advancements in information and communication technology and display manufacturing technology, foldable devices capable of providing large screens while maximizing portability are becoming widely available. These devices are eliciting an explosive response from consumers because they can be folded to minimize size for easy portability in pockets during normal use, and unfolded to provide a large screen comparable to a tablet PC when a wide display is needed for media viewing or web surfing.

[0003] Foldable devices have a structure in which two housings (upper and lower) are connected via a hinge module to implement a folding and unfolding driving mechanism. Foldable devices with this structure are contrasted with general bar-shaped personal devices that have an integrated housing structure.

[0004] Foldable devices are structurally very vulnerable to external impacts, scratches, and the ingress of foreign substances such as dust due to the hinge connecting the two separated housings. In particular, since the hinge is a precision mechanical part consisting of hundreds of interlocking micro-components, if the hinge is subjected to a direct impact during a drop, the entire display of the device may be damaged or the folding / unfolding operation itself may become impossible.

[0005] Accordingly, various protective cases for foldable devices are being released into the market. Early cases for foldable devices were manufactured as two-piece designs in which an upper case covering the upper housing and a lower case covering the lower housing were physically completely separated. However, such separated cases may not protect the hinge area of the device, which is exposed to the outside when the device is folded, at all.

[0006] To address the issue of unprotected hinge parts, a case for a foldable device has been developed that covers the hinge part of the device when the device is folded by connecting an upper case and a lower case with a flexible cover made of leather or urethane material. The case for a foldable device according to this technology proposes an upper case that accommodates the upper part of the device, a lower case that accommodates the lower part of the device, an upper cover coupled to the upper case, a lower cover coupled to the lower case, and a hinge cover that connects the upper cover and the lower cover and protects the hinge part of the device when the device is folded. However, the technology including such a hinge cover may have a problem in that the hinge cover folds when the device is unfolded, thereby damaging the overall appearance of the device case. Additionally, the stress generated by the folding of the hinge cover when the device is unfolded may cause slippage between the upper and lower cases and the upper and lower parts of the device.

[0007] To solve these problems, a technology can be considered in which the upper and lower cases are forcibly fixed to the upper and lower parts of the device by attaching double-sided tape or a gel-type adhesive pad to the inner surface of the upper and lower cases. However, with this technology, the user must apply strong force to remove the case from the device for purposes such as cleaning or replacing the USIM, which increases the risk of damaging the device during removal. Additionally, even if the case is removed without damaging the device, there may be a problem where residue of the double-sided tape or adhesive pad remains on the exterior of the device.

[0008] Accordingly, the inventor of the present invention has completed the present invention after conducting research and going through trial and error for a long time to develop a technology for a case for a foldable terminal that protects the hinge portion of the foldable terminal, effectively prevents slipping between the case and the terminal when the foldable terminal is folded and unfolded, and minimizes damage to the appearance when the foldable terminal is unfolded even if the function of the elastic member deteriorates. The problem to be solved

[0009] One objective of the present invention is to provide a case for a foldable terminal that can protect the hinge portion of the foldable terminal.

[0010] Another objective of the present invention is to provide a case for a foldable terminal that can effectively prevent slippage between the case and the terminal when the foldable terminal is folded and unfolded.

[0011] Another objective of the present invention is to provide a case for a foldable terminal that can minimize damage to the appearance when the foldable terminal is unfolded, even if the function of the elastic member deteriorates.

[0012] Meanwhile, other unspecified objects of the present invention will be further considered to the extent that they can be easily inferred from the following detailed description and effects. means of solving the problem

[0013] According to one embodiment of the present invention, a case for a foldable terminal that accommodates a foldable terminal comprises: an upper receiving portion that accommodates and fixes the upper portion of the foldable terminal; a lower receiving portion that accommodates and fixes the lower portion of the foldable terminal; and a cover portion that connects the upper receiving portion and the lower receiving portion to each other. A case for a foldable terminal may be provided, comprising: a cover portion which is coupled to the rear surface of the lower receiving portion and has a lower cover having an internal receiving space, an upper sliding hole communicating with the receiving space, and a lower sliding hole communicating with the receiving space, each formed therein; an upper cover coupled to the rear surface of the upper receiving portion; a connecting cover whose upper portion is connected to the upper cover and received in the receiving space, and which slides out from the receiving space through the upper sliding hole when the foldable terminal is folded to cover the hinge portion of the foldable terminal; a stopper handle connected to the lower portion of the connecting cover, whose lower portion is exposed to the outside through the lower sliding hole, and which limits the sliding out length of the connecting cover through the upper sliding hole; and an elastic member coupled to the lower portion of the connecting cover within the receiving space and which applies an elastic restoring force to the connecting cover pulled out through the upper sliding hole.

[0014] Here, the thickness or width of the lower portion of the stopper handle may be greater than the thickness or width of the lower sliding hole.

[0015] In addition, when the connecting cover is pulled out through the upper sliding hole and the stopper handle is pulled through the lower sliding hole, the connecting cover can be slid into the receiving space through the upper sliding hole.

[0016] In addition, the case for the foldable terminal may further include a loop portion coupled to the lower part of the stopper handle to pull the stopper handle.

[0017] In addition, the thickness or width of the above ring portion may be greater than the thickness or width of the above lower sliding hole.

[0018] Additionally, the elastic member may include a first elastic band coupled to one side of the lower portion of the connecting cover within the receiving space, and a second elastic band coupled to the other side of the lower portion of the connecting cover within the receiving space.

[0019] In addition, the stopper handle may be positioned between the first elastic band and the second elastic band within the receiving space.

[0020] And, the upper cover, the connecting cover, and the stopper handle can be formed integrally with each other. Effects of the invention

Meanwhile, FIG. 4a and FIG. 4b each project and illustrate the operation of several components arranged within the lower cover.

[0032] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 3, FIGS. 4a, FIGS. 4b, and FIGS. 5 to 6, a case (1) for a foldable terminal according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a receiving portion (20) and a cover portion (10).

[0033] The receiving portion (20) receives and secures a foldable terminal internally. That is, the receiving portion (20) primarily functions to receive the outer edge and mechanical housing of the foldable terminal. The foldable terminal includes an upper and lower portion that fold vertically around a horizontal axis (meaning the horizontal axis in the normal operating state of the terminal) and a hinge portion connecting the upper and lower portions, and the receiving portion (20) receives and secures the upper and lower portions of the foldable terminal internally, respectively. The receiving portion (20) wraps around the corners of the foldable terminal so that when an external impact is applied to the foldable terminal, it can primarily absorb and disperse the external impact. The receiving portion (20) includes a lower receiving portion (210) and an upper receiving portion (220).

[0034] The lower receiving portion (210) stores and secures the lower side and a portion of the rear of the foldable terminal. The upper receiving portion (220) stores and secures the upper side and a portion of the rear of the foldable terminal. The lower receiving portion (210) and the upper receiving portion (220) are spaced apart from each other and are independently fitted into the foldable terminal, and can be mechanically connected by the cover portion (10) to be described later.

[0035] The lower receiving portion (210) and the upper receiving portion (220) can be formed in a shape that allows for fitting into the outer shape of the lower housing and the upper housing of the foldable terminal, respectively, so as to accommodate the lower and upper parts of the foldable terminal. Additionally, control buttons and holes, etc., can be formed in the lower receiving portion (210) and the upper receiving portion (220), respectively, in areas corresponding to the sound control buttons, microphone, and speaker of the foldable terminal. Furthermore, an opening that exposes the external touch display of the upper part of the foldable terminal can be formed in the upper receiving portion (220).

[0036] The lower receiving portion (210) and the upper receiving portion (220) may be formed from plastic and polymer synthetic resin materials such as rigid polycarbonate (PC), which has relatively excellent shape retention and impact resistance, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), silicone, or a double injection molded combination thereof, to prevent scratches on the terminal when attached or detached and to increase shock absorption.

[0037] Meanwhile, the present specification describes the case (1) for a foldable terminal according to the present embodiment on the premise that it is applied to a foldable terminal that can be folded up and down around a horizontal axis (meaning the horizontal axis in the normal operating state of the terminal). However, since this description is merely illustrative, the case for a foldable terminal according to one embodiment of the present invention may be appropriately modified and used in a foldable terminal that folds left and right around a vertical axis (meaning the vertical axis in the normal operating state of the terminal), and the scope of the present invention shall extend to such cases as well.

[0038] The cover portion (10) connects the receiving portions (20) to each other. That is, the cover portion (10) is coupled to the lower receiving portion (210) and the upper receiving portion (220), respectively, so that the cover portion (10) and the receiving portion (20) can function as a single case.

[0039] The cover portion (10) may be manufactured by laminating and bonding an outer layer and an inner layer to ensure aesthetics and partition the sliding space. The outer layer may be formed from natural leather, artificial leather, synthetic leather, canvas fabric, or highly durable fabric. The inner layer is a part that comes into direct contact with the rear of the foldable terminal or the surface of the receiving portion (20), and may be formed from natural leather, artificial leather, synthetic leather, canvas fabric, or highly durable fabric. The outer layer and the inner layer may be attached and joined to each other through the process of applying adhesive along the edge, high-frequency heat fusion, or stitch sewing. When the outer layer and the inner layer are joined, they form a receiving space (111) of the lower cover (110) to be described later, and can accommodate at least a portion of each of the connecting cover (130), stopper handle (140), and elastic member (150) to be described later in the receiving space (111).

[0040] The cover portion (10) includes a lower cover (110), an upper cover (120), a connecting cover (130), a stopper handle (140), and an elastic member (150), and may further include a ring portion (160) as needed.

[0041] The lower cover (110) is attached to the rear of the lower receiving portion (210) and can cover the entire lower portion of the foldable terminal and the entire rear surface area of the lower receiving portion (210).

[0042] The lower cover (110) is formed by laminating an outer shell and an inner shell to create a receiving space (111), which is an empty space of a predetermined volume, inside. At the top of the lower cover (110), an upper sliding hole (112) is formed that communicates with the receiving space (111) and allows the connecting cover (130) to slide out. At the bottom of the lower cover (110), a lower sliding hole (113) is formed that communicates with the receiving space (111) and allows the stopper handle (140) to slide out. The lower cover (110) can serve as a guide rail and housing that allows the connecting cover (130), stopper handle (140), and elastic member (150), which will be described later, to move smoothly up and down.

[0043] The lower cover (110) can be attached to the rear surface of the lower receiving portion (210) by means of adhesive, double-sided tape, or ultrasonic welding.

[0044] The upper cover (120) is coupled to the rear of the upper receiving portion (220) to cover the entire upper portion of the foldable terminal and the entire rear surface area of the upper receiving portion (220). Meanwhile, a window may be formed in the upper cover (120) that communicates with the opening of the upper receiving portion (220) to expose the external touch display on the upper portion of the foldable terminal.

[0045] The upper cover (120) can be attached to the rear surface of the upper receiving portion (220) by means of adhesive, double-sided tape, or ultrasonic welding.

[0046] The upper cover (120) may be manufactured by being cut integrally with the connecting cover (130) and the stopper handle (140) to be described later. Alternatively, the upper cover (120) may be formed separately from the connecting cover (130) and the stopper handle (140) and then integrated with each other through a sewing process such as stitching.

[0047] The connecting cover (130) has an upper portion that is connected to the upper cover (120). The connecting cover (130) is received in the receiving space (111) of the lower cover (110) during normal operation (when the foldable terminal is unfolded). When the foldable terminal is folded, the connecting cover (130) is slid out from the receiving space (111) through the upper sliding hole (112) to protect the hinge portion of the foldable terminal that is exposed to the outside due to the folding of the foldable terminal. The slid-out connecting cover (130) can wrap around and protect the hinge portion (330) of the foldable terminal by the volume of the slid-out portion.

[0048] The connecting cover (130) may be manufactured by being cut integrally with the upper cover (120) and the stopper handle (140) described later. Alternatively, the connecting part (130) may be formed separately from the upper cover (120) and the stopper handle (140) and then integrated with each other through a sewing process such as stitching.

[0049] The connecting cover (130) can be formed from a material with relatively good flexibility. For example, the connecting cover (130) can be formed from thin and tough natural leather, artificial leather, synthetic leather, canvas cloth, or durable fabric.

[0050] The upper end of the stopper handle (140) is connected to the lower end of the connecting cover (130). The lower end of the stopper handle (140) is exposed to the outside for a certain length through the lower sliding hole (113) of the lower cover (110). As the connecting cover (130) is slid out from the receiving space (111) through the upper sliding hole (112), the stopper handle (140) is slid in toward the receiving space (111) through the lower sliding hole (113).

[0051] The stopper handle (140) limits the sliding extension length of the connecting cover (130) through the upper sliding hole (112). Specifically, the lower end of the stopper handle (140) exposed to the outside is formed with a width or thickness greater than the width or thickness of the lower sliding hole (113), so that the lower end of the stopper handle (140) cannot be received into the receiving space (111) through the lower sliding hole (113). According to this structure, the stopper handle (140) prevents the sliding extension length of the connecting cover (130) from increasing without limitation. Additionally, according to this structure, the stopper handle (140) can prevent the connecting cover (130) from moving out of the receiving space (111) and separating from the lower cover (110).

[0052] The stopper handle (140) can receive the connecting cover (130), which is slid out from the receiving space (111) through the upper sliding hole (112), into the receiving space (111). That is, when a user pulls the bottom of the stopper handle (140), the connecting cover (130), which is integrated with the stopper handle (140), is received into the receiving space (111) through the upper sliding hole (112). While the elastic member (150), which will be described later, is operating normally, the connecting cover (130), which is slid out from the receiving space (111), is re-received into the receiving space (111) by the elastic member (150) when the foldable terminal is unfolded. However, if the elastic member (150) fails to perform its function due to damage to the elastic member (150), the connecting cover (130) that is slid out from the receiving space (111) may not be re-acquired into the receiving space (111) when the foldable terminal is unfolded, thereby hindering the unfolding of the foldable terminal. In this embodiment, even in an emergency situation where the elastic member (150) fails to perform its function, the connecting cover (130) can be re-acquired into the receiving space (111) when unfolded using the stopper handle (140). As a result, the usage period of the case (1) for the foldable terminal according to this embodiment may be increased.

[0053] The stopper handle (140) may be manufactured by being cut integrally with the upper cover (120) and the connecting cover (130). Alternatively, the stopper handle (140) may be formed separately from the upper cover (120) and the connecting cover (130) and then integrated with each other through a sewing process such as stitching.

[0054] The stopper handle (140) may also be formed as a laminated structure of an outer shell and an inner shell. Meanwhile, since the stopper handle (140) must be caught in the lower sliding hole (113) and not be drawn further into the receiving space (111), it may be formed as a structure in which a reinforcing material (e.g., metal pin, hard PC plastic panel, etc.) is inserted between the outer shell and the inner shell to minimize shape deformation.

[0055] The elastic member (150) is placed within the receiving space (111) of the lower cover (110). One side of the elastic member (150) is connected to the lower end of the connecting cover (130), and the other side is fixed to the outer or inner skin forming the receiving space (111) of the lower cover (110). The elastic member (150) applies an elastic restoring force to the connecting cover (130) that is pulled out through the upper sliding hole (112). That is, as the connecting cover (130) is slid out, one side of the elastic member (150) is tensioned to accumulate elastic energy (tension), and as a result, an elastic restoring force is applied to the pulled-out connecting cover (130) to pull downward.

[0056] The elastic member (150) may be formed from high-elasticity rubber, silicone band, spandex woven band with maximized elasticity, or TPU elastic strap material so as not to lose elasticity even with repeated contraction and expansion over a long period of time. The elastic member (150) may be joined to the connecting cover (130) and the lower cover (110) through a sewing process such as stitching.

[0057] The elastic member (150) may include a first elastic band (151) and a second elastic band (152). The first elastic band (151) is placed in the receiving space (111) of the lower cover (110), with one side connected to one side of the lower portion of the connecting cover (130) and the other side fixed to the outer or inner layer forming the receiving space (111) of the lower cover (110). The second elastic band (152) is placed in the receiving space (111) of the lower cover (110) spaced apart from the first elastic band (151), with one side connected to the other side of the lower portion of the connecting cover (130) and the other side fixed to the outer or inner layer forming the receiving space (111) of the lower cover (110). A stopper handle (140) may be placed between the first elastic band (151) and the second elastic band (152). This left-right symmetrical dual banding structure evenly distributes the pulling force on the connecting cover (130), thereby preventing the connecting cover (130) from twisting to the left or side or leaning to one side during sliding motion. If the elastic member (150) includes a first elastic band (151) and a second elastic band (152), even if either of the elastic bands (151, 152) is damaged, elastic restoring force can be applied to the connecting cover (130) through the remaining elastic bands (151, 152).

[0058] The loop portion (160) can be attached to the lower part of the stopper handle (140). When the loop portion (160) is attached to the lower part of the stopper handle (140), the user can easily handle the case (1) for a foldable terminal according to the present embodiment by hooking their finger onto the loop portion (160). Additionally, when the loop portion (160) is attached to the lower part of the stopper handle (140), the user can easily pull the stopper handle (140) of the case (1) for a foldable terminal according to the present embodiment by hooking their finger onto the loop portion (160). Furthermore, when the loop portion (160) is attached to the lower part of the stopper handle (140), various accessories such as a neck strap, a hand strap, or a key ring can be attached through the loop portion (160), thereby improving the portability and design value of the product.

[0059] The ring portion (150) may be formed of a metal or fabric material and may have an overall ring shape. The thickness or width of the ring portion (150) may be formed to be larger than the thickness or width of the lower sliding hole (113). In this case, the ring portion (150) may perform the role of a dual safety stopper device together with the stopper handle (140).

[0060] The elastic member (150) applied in the present invention may be designed in length and material to apply tension during both folding and unfolding of the foldable terminal. Accordingly, the connecting cover (130) connected to the upper cover (120) can always maintain a state of being pulled toward the receiving space (111). As a result, the upper receiving portion (220) attached to the upper cover (120) and the lower receiving portion (210) attached to the lower cover (110) can be pulled toward the axis of the central hinge (330) of the foldable terminal (30). That is, even if a detachment force occurs in which the receiving portion (20) is pushed outward and peeled off due to the difference in the rotation radius of the hinge portion during folding and unfolding of the foldable terminal, the slipping phenomenon can be fundamentally suppressed because the elastic member (150) constantly applies a tensile force that pulls both the upper and lower receiving portions (210, 220) toward the center. Through this, the case (1) for a foldable terminal of the present invention can firmly fix the upper and lower parts of the foldable terminal within the upper and lower receiving parts (210, 220) without installing any chemical adhesive material such as double-sided tape inside the upper and lower receiving parts (210, 220).

[0061] The case (1) for a foldable terminal of the present invention can provide a mechanical unfolding assist function. When the foldable terminal is in a folded state, the connecting cover (130) is pulled out to the maximum through the upper sliding hole (112) to surround the hinge portion of the foldable terminal, and the elastic member (150) is expanded to the maximum to retain strong restoring energy. In this state, when a user pulls down the stopper handle (140) (or the ring portion (160) attached thereto) protruding outside the lower sliding hole (113), the connecting cover (130) is forcibly slid into the receiving space (111) through the upper sliding hole (112). As the connecting cover (130) is re-acquired into the receiving space (111) of the lower cover (110), the connecting cover (130) pulls the upper cover (120) and the upper receiving portion (220), and this force acts as a lever on the upper area of the folded foldable terminal, thereby transmitting a torque that rotates the foldable terminal to unfold. Therefore, the user can unfold the folded foldable terminal by simply pulling down the stopper handle (140) (or the ring portion (160) attached thereto) at the bottom of the case, without having to forcibly open the gap of the folded terminal with a finger.

[0063] The scope of protection of the present invention is not limited to the description and expression of the embodiments explicitly described above. Furthermore, it is added once again that the scope of protection of the present invention cannot be limited by obvious changes or substitutions in the technical field to which the present invention belongs.
