Description

Technology Field

[0001] Embodiments of the present invention relate to a trap adapter for an EGR valve and an EGR valve including the same. Background Technology

[0002] With increasing concern for the atmospheric environment, regulations on exhaust gases emitted from sources such as automobiles, boilers, and power generation facilities are being implemented. For example, in automobiles, incomplete combustion occurs in the engine, and the resulting exhaust gases contain pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and sulfur dioxide; regulations to reduce these emissions are being enforced worldwide.

[0003] Therefore, various devices are provided to reduce pollutants contained in exhaust gases by recirculating exhaust gases emitted from automobile engines back into the engine to achieve complete combustion. For example, devices for reducing pollutants in exhaust gases include Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), Diesel Particle Filters (DPF), and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR; hereinafter referred to as EGR).

[0004] Among these devices, EGR is a device that can reduce the formation of nitrogen oxides by recirculating exhaust gas burned in an automobile engine. For example, since there is a problem where the amount of nitrogen oxides formed increases rapidly at high temperatures of 2,000°C or higher, EGR is a device that cools a portion of the exhaust gas and recirculates the cooled exhaust gas back into the combustion chamber of the engine to lower the temperature of the combustion chamber.

[0005] That is, the temperature of the exhaust gas emitted from the engine is about 600 to 700°C, but it is lowered to about 100 to 350°C after passing through the cooler of the EGR, and the exhaust gas cooled in this way is introduced into the EGR valve, and then, through the inside of the valve housing by opening the valve flap, is recirculated to the combustion chamber of the engine through the exhaust duct connected to the valve housing.

[0006] At this time, when exhaust gas flows into the exhaust duct through the interior of the valve housing, condensation is generated as the exhaust gas comes into contact with the inner surface of the exhaust duct due to the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the exhaust duct.

[0007] The condensate generated in this manner typically flows along the inner surface of the exhaust duct into the valve housing of the EGR valve, causing problems by oxidizing or corroding the inner surface of the flow path of the valve housing.

[0008] In particular, there was a problem where the EGR valve's performance or durability was reduced as it entered the valve flap and actuator that open and close the exhaust gas path of the valve housing and froze in a low-temperature environment. The problem to be solved

[0009] The embodiments of the present invention aim to solve the above-mentioned problems and / or limitations by providing a trap adapter for an EGR valve and an EGR valve including the same, which can prevent condensate generated on the inner surface of an exhaust duct due to the internal and external temperature difference of the exhaust duct from flowing into the interior of the valve housing.

[0010] However, these tasks are exemplary and do not limit the scope of the invention. means of solving the problem

[0011] One embodiment of the present invention provides an EGR valve comprising: a valve housing including a flow path through which exhaust gas of an engine passes; a valve flap disposed inside the flow path and opening and closing the flow path; an exhaust duct disposed on one side of the valve housing and including an exhaust path communicating with the flow path; and a trap adapter disposed at the outlet of the flow path and collecting condensate generated in the exhaust path and discharging it into the flow path.

[0012] In one embodiment of the present invention, the trap adapter may include: a body portion formed in a pipe shape that is open on both axial sides and has an outer surface formed to be spaced apart from the inner surface of the exhaust duct; and a discharge hole portion formed at one end of the body portion adjacent to the flow path, which guides condensate collected in the spaced-apart space between the inner surface of the exhaust duct and the outer surface of the body portion to the flow path.

[0013] In one embodiment of the present invention, the valve housing includes a stepped groove formed on the inner surface of the exhaust outlet through which the exhaust gas is discharged, and the trap adapter may include a stepped portion formed on the outer surface of one end of the body portion and coupled to the stepped groove.

[0014] In one embodiment of the present invention, when the stepped portion is coupled to the stepped groove portion, the inner surface of the body portion may be connected to the inner surface of the fluid flow path.

[0015] In one embodiment of the present invention, the discharge hole portion may be formed at a position corresponding to one side of the valve flap that rotates in the direction of the exhaust passage when the flow passage is opened by the rotation of the valve flap.

[0016] In one embodiment of the present invention, the exhaust duct may be formed in such a way that the cross-sectional area of the exhaust passage gradually decreases along the direction of exhaust gas discharge.

[0017] In one embodiment of the present invention, the EGR valve may further include a sealing member provided between the valve housing and the exhaust duct to maintain airtightness.

[0018] Another embodiment of the present invention provides a trap adapter for an EGR valve comprising: a body portion formed such that its outer surface is spaced apart from the inner surface of the exhaust duct, and is provided between a flow path of a valve housing and an exhaust path of an exhaust duct coupled to the valve housing; and a discharge hole portion formed at one end of the body portion adjacent to the flow path, which guides condensate collected in the spaced-apart space between the inner surface of the exhaust duct and the outer surface of the body portion into the flow path; wherein the valve housing includes a stepped groove portion formed on the inner surface of an outlet through which the exhaust gas is discharged, and the body portion includes a stepped portion formed on the outer surface of one end and coupled to the stepped groove portion.

[0019] In one embodiment of the present invention, the discharge hole portion may be formed at a position corresponding to one side of a valve flap that rotates in the direction of the exhaust passage when the flow passage is opened.

[0020] In one embodiment of the present invention, when the stepped portion is coupled to the stepped groove portion, the inner surface of the body portion may be connected to the inner surface of the fluid flow path.

[0021] Other aspects, features, and advantages other than those described above will become clear from the following drawings, claims, and detailed description of the invention. Effects of the invention

[0022] According to the means for solving the problem of the present invention described above, a trap adapter for an EGR valve according to one embodiment of the present invention can prevent condensate generated on the inner surface of an exhaust duct from flowing into the EGR valve, thereby preventing corrosion of the valve housing and preventing performance degradation and durability degradation of the EGR valve.

[0023] In addition, the EGR valve according to one embodiment of the present invention allows the trap adapter coupled to the outlet of the valve housing to be exposed when the exhaust duct is separated from the valve housing, thereby making maintenance convenient and reducing maintenance costs.

[0036] FIG. 1 is a perspective view illustrating an EGR valve (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective view of the EGR valve (100) of FIG. 1, FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view drawn along line II of FIG. 1, FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view drawn along line II-II of FIG. 1, FIG. 5 is a drawing illustrating a trap adapter (140) according to one embodiment of the present invention.

[0037] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 4, an EGR valve (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention may include a valve housing (110), a valve flap (120), an exhaust duct (130), a trap adapter (140), and a flap driving unit (150).

[0038] An EGR valve (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention can be connected to an intake throttle of an engine turbo inlet, for example, in a vehicle, for a fresh air intake system including a combustion chamber, and can reduce the formation of pollutants such as nitrogen oxides by cooling exhaust gas discharged from the engine and recirculating the cooled exhaust gas to the combustion chamber to lower the temperature of the combustion chamber.

[0039] A valve housing (110) may have a first inlet (111) formed on one side for exhaust gas to flow in, and a first outlet (112) formed on the other side for exhaust gas to be discharged. A flow path (p1) through which exhaust gas flows may be formed between the first inlet (111) and the first outlet (112) of the valve housing (110).

[0040] That is, exhaust gas exhausted from the engine is introduced into the interior of the valve housing (110) through the first inlet (111), and the exhaust gas introduced through the first inlet (111) can be discharged to the exhaust duct (130) through the first outlet (112) via the flow path (p1). The exhaust gas discharged to the exhaust duct (130) can be recirculated to the combustion chamber, and the exhaust gas discharged through the first outlet (112) can be recirculated to the combustion chamber of the engine through the exhaust duct (130).

[0041] A valve flap (120) is provided in a flow path (p1) and can control the flow of exhaust gas flowing from the flow path (p1) of the valve housing (110) to the exhaust duct (130) by opening and closing the flow path (p1).

[0042] At this time, the valve flap (120) can be formed with a shape corresponding to the cross-sectional shape of the flow path (p1), and can open and close the flow path (p1) by rotating within the flow path (p1) through the flap driving unit (150) provided in the valve housing (110).

[0043] The flap driving unit (150) may include a flap rotation shaft (151) having a length and a center axis (Ax) in a direction orthogonal to the axial center axis (Px) of the flow path (p1) and to which the valve flap (120) is detachably fixed, and a driving motor (153) connected to the flap rotation shaft (151) via a power transmission means (152) to provide a driving force to the power transmission means (152) for rotating the flap rotation shaft (151).

[0044] The power transmission means (152) may be formed as a gear-type connection structure including a plurality of gears connecting the drive shaft (153a) of the drive motor (153) and the flap rotation shaft (151), but is not limited thereto, and various types of connection structures for power transmission may be applied.

[0045] An opening hole (151a) may be formed in the flap pivot shaft (151), and a fastening member such as a bolt may be fastened to the flap pivot shaft (151a) and the valve flap (120) while the valve flap (120) is inserted into the opening hole (151a). Through this, the valve flap (120) can be detachably fixed to the flap pivot shaft (151).

[0046] The valve flap (120) can open and close the flow path (p1) of the valve housing (110) while rotating integrally with the flap rotation shaft (151) while fixed to the flap rotation shaft (151). Additionally, the valve flap (120) can control the flow of exhaust gas from the flow path (p1) to the exhaust path (p2) of the exhaust duct (130).

[0047] A return spring (154) may be attached to one end of the flap pivot shaft (151) that is connected to the power transmission means (152). Additionally, the flap pivot shaft (151) may maintain an elastically rotated state so that the valve flap (120) closes the flow path (p1) by the elastic restoring force of the return spring (154) when the drive motor (153) is not operating.

[0048] Referring to FIG. 4, the valve flap (120) can be formed such that when the flow path (p1) is closed, the angle (α) formed with the cross-section of the flow path (p1) is approximately 7° along the direction in which the exhaust gas flows. Meanwhile, when the flow path (p1) is opened, the valve flap (120) can be rotated such that the angle (α) formed with the cross-section of the flow path (p1) is approximately 20° to 50° along the direction in which the exhaust gas flows.

[0049] This is because when the angle (α) of the valve flap (120) is rotated less than 20°, the fluidity of the exhaust gas decreases, and when the angle (α) of the valve flap (120) is rotated more than 50°, the differential pressure drops, making it difficult to discharge the condensate collected in the trap adapter (140) with the flow pressure of the exhaust gas.

[0050] An exhaust duct (130) may be provided on the side of the first outlet (112) of the valve housing (110), and a second inlet (131) through which exhaust gas flows from the first outlet (112) may be formed on one side. A second outlet (132) through which exhaust gas is discharged may be formed on the other side of the exhaust duct (130), and an exhaust passage (p2) through which exhaust gas flows may be formed between the second inlet (131) and the second outlet (132).

[0051] The exhaust passage (p2) may be formed such that the flow passage (p1) of the valve housing (110) and the central axis (Px) coincide, and the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130), that is, the cross-section of the exhaust passage (p2), may be formed in a shape that narrows along the direction of exhaust gas discharge, but is not limited thereto.

[0052] A trap adapter (140) is provided at the first outlet (112) of the valve housing (110) to collect condensate generated in the exhaust path (p2) and discharge it into the flow path (p1).

[0053] Referring to FIG. 5, the trap adapter (140) may include a body part (141) having a connecting channel (p3) communicating with a flow channel (p1) and an exhaust channel (p2), and a discharge hole part (142) formed at one end of the body part (141) adjacent to the flow channel (p1) to guide the collected condensate to the flow channel (p1).

[0054] The valve housing (110) may include a stepped groove (112a) formed on the inner surface of the first outlet (112) through which exhaust gas is discharged. At this time, the trap adapter (140) may include a stepped portion (141a) corresponding to the stepped groove (112a) on the outer surface of one end of the body portion (141).

[0055] The stepped groove (112a) can be formed by extending the inner surface of the first discharge port (112). In other words, the stepped portion (141a) can be formed protruding from the outer surface of the body portion (141) in a shape corresponding to the stepped groove (112a). By joining the stepped portion (141a) to the stepped groove (112a) in a manner such as press-fitting, one end of the body portion (141) of the trap adapter (140) can be fixed to the first discharge port (112) of the valve housing (110).

[0056] When the stepped portion (141a) is coupled to the stepped groove portion (112a), the body portion (141) can be positioned across the flow path (p1) and the exhaust path (p2), and the outer surface of the body portion (141) can be formed to be spaced apart from the inner surface of the stepped groove portion (112a) and the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130). At this time, the inner surface of the stepped groove portion (112a) and the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130) are connected, so that condensate generated on the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130) can be easily collected in the stepped portion (141a) of the trap adapter (140) by following the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130) and passing through the inner surface of the stepped groove portion (112a).

[0057] Accordingly, a gap space may be formed between the inner surface of the step groove (112a), the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130), and the outer surface of the body part (141), and through the gap space, condensate generated on the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130) may be collected along the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130) to the step portion (141a). At this time, the collected condensate may be guided in real time to the flow path (p1) through the discharge hole portion (142).

[0058] In an embodiment of the present invention, the EGR valve (100) may open the flow path (p1) by rotating the valve flap (120) when the flap driving unit (150) is operated, and a choking phenomenon may occur near the discharge hole (142) due to the flow force of the exhaust gas flowing through the opened area. At this time, the condensate collected in the step portion (141a) is guided to the flow path (p1) through the discharge hole portion (142) due to the choking phenomenon, and then can be smoothly discharged in real time together with the exhaust gas.

[0059] As such, according to the EGR valve (100) of one embodiment of the present invention, when the EGR valve (100) is operated, the condensate generated on the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130) can be collected in real time through the trap adapter (140) and guided to the flow path (p1) through the discharge hole (142) to be discharged into the exhaust duct (130) together with the exhaust gas, so that the condensate generated in the exhaust duct (130) can be effectively prevented from flowing into the interior of the valve housing (110).

[0060] Accordingly, the EGR valve (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention can prevent condensate generated in the exhaust duct (130) from flowing into the valve housing (110) and oxidizing or corroding the inner surface of the flow path (p1). In particular, the EGR valve (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention can prevent the performance or durability of the EGR valve (100) from being reduced by the condensate flowing into the interior of the valve housing (110) freezing in the valve flap (120) and flap driving part (150) in a low-temperature environment.

[0061] Meanwhile, in the trap adapter (140) according to one embodiment of the present invention, the discharge hole portion (142) may be formed at a position corresponding to one side of the valve flap (120) (corresponding to the left end in Fig. 4) which rotates in the direction of the exhaust passage (p2) when the valve flap (120) rotates.

[0062] In detail, the second outlet (132) of the exhaust duct (130) is installed so as to face upward, and when the valve flap (120) opens the flow path (p1), one side (corresponding to the left end in Fig. 4) can be rotated toward the exhaust path (p2) and the other side can be rotated toward the flow path (p1). In this case, the space of the flow path (p1) opened by the rotation of the other side of the valve flap (120) inevitably has a relatively low flow rate of exhaust gas.

[0063] Therefore, when the condensate collected in the stepped portion (141a) of the trap adapter (140) is discharged through the discharge hole portion (142) formed at a position corresponding to the other side of the valve flap (120), it is not discharged into the exhaust passage (p2) by the flow force of the exhaust gas, but is discharged into the flow passage (p1) by gravity and can flow into the valve housing (110).

[0064] Accordingly, the discharge hole portion (142) formed on the outer surface of the body portion (141) of the trap adapter (140) is preferably formed at a position corresponding to one side (left end based on FIG. 4) of the valve flap (120) which rotates in the direction of the exhaust passage (p2) when the EGR valve (100) is operated.

[0065] The discharge hole portion (142) is disclosed to be formed in a single semicircular shape, but is not limited thereto and may be formed in multiple shapes or in a triangular or polygonal shape. In one embodiment, the discharge hole portion (142) may be formed at a position adjacent to the stepped portion (141a) on the outer surface of the body portion (141) of the trap adapter (140) and corresponding to one side of the valve flap (120) (corresponding to the left end in Fig. 4).

[0066] Meanwhile, an EGR valve (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention may further include a sealing member (160) interposed between a valve housing (110) and an exhaust duct (130).

[0067] The valve housing (110) and the exhaust duct (130) can be joined by a fastening member such as a bolt, and when joined, a sealing member (160) is interposed between the valve housing (110) and the exhaust duct (130) so as to maintain airtightness between the valve housing (110) and the exhaust duct (130).

[0068] The sealing member (160) may include a gasket having a shape corresponding to the shape of the contact surface between the valve housing (110) and the exhaust duct (130), but is not limited thereto.

[0069] FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view of a main part to explain the state in which condensate is generated inside the exhaust duct (130) of an EGR valve (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 7 is a cross-sectional view of a main part to explain the state in which the condensate generated in FIG. 6 is collected by a trap adapter (140), and FIG. 8 is an enlarged view of part A to explain the state in which the condensate collected by the trap adapter (140) in FIG. 7 is discharged into the flow path of exhaust gas through a discharge hole (142).

[0070] Hereinafter, with further reference to FIGS. 6 to 8, a process for discharging condensate formed on the inner surface of an exhaust duct (130) during the exhaust gas recirculation process of an EGR valve (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention will be described.

[0071] An EGR valve (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention can reduce the formation of pollutants by cooling exhaust gas discharged from an engine and recirculating the cooled exhaust gas to the combustion chamber to lower the temperature of the combustion chamber.

[0072] Referring again to FIG. 3 and FIG. 6, the EGR valve (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention is in a state where the flap driving unit (150) is not operated before the exhaust gas is recirculated, and the valve flap (120) can elastically close the flow path (p1) of the valve housing (110) by the elastic restoring force of the return spring (154) coupled to the flap rotation shaft (151).

[0073] The valve flap (120) can be formed such that when the flow path (p1) is closed, the angle (α) formed with the cross-section of the flow path (p1) (corresponding to the horizontal direction in Fig. 6) is approximately 7° along the direction in which the exhaust gas flows.

[0074] Since the valve flap (120) is tilted at an angle of approximately 7° toward the exhaust passage (p2) when the flow path (p1) is closed, the flow force of the exhaust gas can act in the rotational direction of the valve flap (120) when the EGR valve (100) is operated, and the driving part (150) of the valve flap (120) can easily rotate the valve flap (120) with a relatively small driving force.

[0075] Referring again to FIGS. 3, 7 and 8, an EGR valve (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention rotates a valve flap (120) to open a flow path (p1) of a valve housing (110) for recirculating exhaust gas discharged from an engine.

[0076] The valve flap (120) is rotated through the flap drive unit (150) and returned through the elastic restoring force of the return spring (154) to open and close the flow path (p1), thereby controlling the flow of exhaust gas from the flow path (p1) to the exhaust path (p2) of the exhaust duct (130).

[0077] When the valve flap (120) rotates through the flap driving unit (150) to open the flow path (p1), the angle (α) formed by the valve flap (120) with the cross-section of the flow path (p1) (corresponding to the horizontal direction in Fig. 7) can be approximately 20° to 50°.

[0078] If the angle (α) of the valve flap (120) is less than 20°, the flow of exhaust gas decreases, and if the angle (α) of the valve flap (120) is greater than 50°, the differential pressure decreases, making it difficult to discharge the flow of exhaust gas from the condensate collected in the trap adapter (140).

[0079] When the flow path (p1) is opened by the rotation of the valve flap (120), the exhaust gas flowing into the flow path (p1) is discharged into the exhaust path (p2), and the exhaust gas flowing into the exhaust path (p2) is recirculated to the combustion chamber of the engine.

[0080] At this time, due to the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the exhaust duct (130), exhaust gas flowing from the flow path (p1) into the exhaust path (p2) comes into contact with the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130), and condensation is generated.

[0081] A trap adapter (140) according to one embodiment of the present invention can prevent condensate generated on the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130) from flowing into the interior of the valve housing (110) by collecting condensate generated on the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130) in real time and guiding and discharging it to the flow path (p1) and the exhaust path (p2).

[0082] The trap adapter (140) may include a body portion (141) having a hollow tubular shape and a stepped portion (141a) protruding from the outer surface of one end of the body portion (141). At this time, a stepped groove portion (112a) in which the stepped portion (141a) can be coupled by means such as press-fitting may be formed in the first discharge port (112) of the valve housing (110).

[0083] When the stepped portion (141a) is coupled to the stepped groove portion (112a), the body portion (141) may be positioned across the flow path (p1) and the exhaust path (p2). The outer surface of the body portion (141) may be formed to be spaced apart from the inner surface of the stepped groove portion (112a) and the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130).

[0084] That is, the body portion (141) of the trap adapter (140) according to one embodiment of the present invention can form a double-pipe structure with the inner surface of the stepped groove portion (112a) and the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130). In addition, the trap adapter (140) can easily collect condensate generated on the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130) into the stepped portion (141a) along the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130) and the inner surface of the stepped groove portion (112a).

[0085] At this time, the valve flap (120) rotates so that exhaust gas flows through the open area between one side of the valve flap (120) (corresponding to the left end in Fig. 8) and the discharge hole (142) of the trap adapter (140). Additionally, a choking phenomenon occurs near the discharge hole (142) due to the flow force of the exhaust gas, so that the condensate collected in the stepped portion (141a) of the trap adapter (140) is guided in real time to the flow path (p1) and the exhaust path (p2) together with the exhaust gas flowing through the discharge hole (142) and can be discharged.

[0086] According to an embodiment of the present invention, the condensate generated on the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130) can be collected in real time by the trap adapter (140) and easily discharged through the discharge hole (142) to the flow path (p1) and the exhaust path (p2), thereby effectively preventing the condensate generated on the inner surface of the exhaust duct (130) from flowing into the interior of the valve housing (110).

[0087] Therefore, the EGR valve (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention can effectively prevent condensate generated in the exhaust duct (130) from flowing into the valve housing (110) and oxidizing or corroding the inner surface of the flow path (p1). In particular, the EGR valve (100) according to one embodiment of the present invention can prevent the performance and durability of the EGR valve (100) from being degraded by the condensate flowing into the interior of the valve housing (110) freezing in the valve flap (120) and flap driving part (150) in a low-temperature environment.

[0088] As such, the present invention has been described with reference to an embodiment illustrated in the drawings, but this is merely illustrative, and those skilled in the art will understand that various modifications and variations of the embodiments are possible therefrom. Accordingly, the true technical scope of protection of the present invention should be determined by the technical spirit of the appended claims. Explanation of the symbols
