Description

Technology Field

[0001] The present invention relates to an antiviral industrial deodorizer composition comprising pomegranate extract and turmeric extract and a method for manufacturing the same. More specifically, the invention relates to an eco-friendly antiviral industrial deodorizer composition based on natural ingredients that exhibits excellent deodorizing effects against various malodorous substances generated in industrial sites and simultaneously possesses antiviral activity, and a method for manufacturing the same. Background Technology

[0002] With the recent rapid progress of industrialization, environmental pollution and civil complaints caused by odorous substances generated in various industrial sectors, such as the livestock industry, food processing industry, chemical industry, and waste treatment industry, are emerging as serious social issues. In particular, odorous substances such as ammonia (NH3), trimethylamine (N(CH3)3), methyl mercaptan (CH3SH), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) cause strong discomfort even in minute quantities, and continuous exposure leads to headaches, vomiting, and respiratory diseases, posing a serious threat to the health of workers and the living environment of residents in surrounding areas.

[0003] Deodorization technologies currently used in industrial settings can be broadly classified into physical, chemical, and biological methods. Physical methods include activated carbon adsorption, zeolite adsorption, and membrane separation; however, these are difficult to apply to large-scale industrial facilities due to high adsorbent replacement costs and limited treatment capacity. Biological methods, such as biofilters and bioscrubbers, offer low operating costs but have the disadvantage of requiring strict management of operating conditions to maintain microbial activity, while their treatment efficiency is heavily dependent on environmental conditions.

[0004] The most widely used chemical deodorization method involves decomposing or deodorizing odorous substances through mechanisms such as acid-base neutralization, oxidation, and chlorination reactions using aqueous ammonia solutions (15-25%), sodium hydroxide, sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide, and ozone. While these chemical deodorizers provide rapid initial treatment effects and high removal rates, they have fundamental limitations, such as secondary environmental pollution caused by residual chemicals after the reaction, worker safety issues due to corrosiveness and toxicity, and the need for frequent reprocessing due to a lack of sustained effect.

[0005] Moreover, with the recent outbreaks of infectious diseases such as COVID-19, MERS, and SARS, social interest and demands for regulations regarding the prevention of the spread of viruses and pathogenic microorganisms within industrial facilities have increased significantly. However, existing chemical deodorizers focus only on simple odor removal, resulting in very limited antiviral effects against influenza viruses, coronaviruses, and noroviruses. Furthermore, there are concerns regarding the inconvenience of having to use additional disinfectants and the side effects caused by the excessive use of chemicals.

[0006] Meanwhile, as social demand for environmentally friendly and sustainable industrial development increases, interest in developing eco-friendly deodorizers based on natural ingredients is growing. Although research results have reported that bioactive substances such as polyphenol compounds, flavonoids, and terpenes contained in natural plant extracts, such as pomegranates, turmeric, green tea, and citrus fruits, exhibit antioxidant, antibacterial, and antiviral activities, technical challenges such as composition optimization, ensuring stability, and enhancing the duration of effectiveness to commercialize these natural ingredients as industrial deodorizers remain unresolved.

[0007] In particular, natural extracts exhibit relatively lower deodorizing efficiency compared to chemical deodorizers when used alone, and their commercial application has been limited due to issues such as insufficient stability in aqueous solutions, rapid decomposition of active ingredients, and difficulties in standardizing raw materials. Furthermore, there is a lack of research on methods to maximize synergistic effects through the elucidation of interaction mechanisms among various natural ingredients, the derivation of optimal blending ratios, and the development of pretreatment technologies utilizing herbal ingredients.

[0008] Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop an innovative industrial deodorizer composition that can simultaneously achieve excellent deodorizing effects and antiviral activity based on natural ingredients, while ensuring persistence and stability comparable to chemical deodorizers. If the weight ratio falls outside the above range, the synergistic effect between the ellagic acid of the pomegranate extract and the curcumin of the turmeric extract may be reduced, which may result in a decrease in deodorizing performance.

[0039] Meanwhile, the method for manufacturing the industrial deodorizer composition of the present invention is as follows.

[0040] First, the pomegranate fruit is washed and crushed, then extracted using 60% to 80% ethanol for 12 to 48 hours. Subsequently, a pomegranate extract with an ellagic acid content of 10 to 20% is prepared through filtration and concentration processes. Preferably, extraction is performed using 70% ethanol for 24 hours, and more preferably, a pomegranate extract with an ellagic acid content of 15% or more is prepared.

[0041] Next, the turmeric rhizome is washed, dried, and then ground, and hot water extraction is performed at 50°C to 70°C. Subsequently, the turmeric extract is freeze-dried to produce a curcumin content of 20-30%. Preferably, extraction is performed at 60°C for 68 hours, and more preferably, a turmeric extract with a curcumin content of 25% or more is produced.

[0042] If necessary, the prepared pomegranate extract and turmeric extract may be pretreated with herbal extracts. The pomegranate extract and turmeric extract are each immersed in an aqueous solution of lavender extract or rosemary extract at a concentration of 0.05 to 0.2% and aged at a low temperature of 2°C to 8°C for 4 to 12 hours. Afterward, the supernatant is recovered by centrifugation (2,000 rpm to 5,000 rpm, 5 to 20 minutes). Preferably, the extracts are treated in an aqueous solution of herbal extract at a concentration of 0.1% at 4°C for 6 hours, and more preferably, a combined treatment with lavender and rosemary is performed.

[0043] Next, a first mixture is prepared by mixing the pretreated pomegranate extract and turmeric extract with a water-soluble polymer in a set weight ratio. At this time, to ensure homogeneous mixing, the mixture is stirred at 500 to 1,500 rpm for 30 minutes to 2 hours.

[0044] Next, an emulsifier is added to the first mixture and stirred at 1,000 to 3,000 rpm for 1 to 3 hours. During this process, the emulsifier stabilizes the active ingredients of the pomegranate and turmeric extracts and improves dispersibility.

[0045] Then, add excipients and mix at 500 to 1,000 rpm for 2 to 4 hours. At this time, add the excipients in stages to prevent sedimentation or coagulation.

[0046] Finally, a final deodorant composition is prepared by performing a homogenization treatment using a high-pressure homogenizer (5,000 to 15,000 psi) or an ultrasonic homogenizer (20 to 40 kHz). Preferably, the homogenization treatment is performed at least three times at 10,000 psi.

[0047] The manufactured industrial deodorizer composition exhibits a high deodorization rate against malodorous substances such as ammonia, trimethylamine, methyl mercaptan, and hydrogen sulfide, and shows high antiviral activity against influenza viruses, etc. In addition, it has excellent persistence, maintaining its initial deodorization performance even after 24 hours.

[0049] Although the present invention has been described above with reference to embodiments, this is merely illustrative and does not limit the embodiments of the present invention. Those skilled in the art will understand that various modifications and applications not exemplified above are possible within the scope of the essential characteristics of the present invention. For example, each component specifically shown in the embodiments of the present invention may be modified and implemented. [0111] Experimental Example 3: Evaluation of Deodorizing Effect Duration

[0112] The persistence of the deodorizing effect was evaluated for the compositions of Examples 1 to 8 and Comparative Examples 1 to 7. For the persistence evaluation, the residual deodorizing effect was measured at 6, 12, and 24 hours after the initial spraying.

[0115] * Duration Rate = (Deodorization Rate after 24 hours / Initial Deodorization Rate) × 100

[0117] As a result of the persistence evaluation, the lavender and rosemary complex herb pretreatment composition of Example 4 showed the best persistence, maintaining 91.5% of the initial deodorization rate even after 24 hours. Example 5 (1:1.5 weight ratio) also showed a high persistence rate of 89.1%, but showed relatively lower persistence compared to Example 4. The single herb pretreatment compositions of Examples 2 and 3 also showed excellent persistence rates of 86.7% and 87.2%, respectively. On the other hand, Examples 6 to 8, which fell outside the scope of Claim 3, showed relatively low persistence. The persistence of the comparative examples was significantly low; in particular, Comparative Examples 1 and 2, which used a single extract, showed low persistence rates of 69.3% and 68.2%, respectively. Comparative Example 7, a chemical deodorizer, showed an initial deodorization effect but exhibited a rapid decline in performance to 45.3% after 24 hours, confirming that its persistence was very insufficient.

[0119] Overall, among the compositions using the extract prepared by the standard extraction method of Example 1, Example 4, which applied a complex herbal pretreatment of lavender and rosemary, showed the best performance in all evaluation categories. Example 4 achieved the highest performance with an average deodorization rate of 96.7%, an average antiviral activity of 98.8%, and a persistence rate of 91.5%. On the other hand, Comparative Examples 1 and 2, which used the extract prepared by the method of Example 1 alone, showed significantly lower inactivation rates of 77.2% and 75.6%, respectively. This is attributed to a mechanism in which ellagic acid and anthocyanin from the pomegranate extract prepared by the standard extraction method of Example 1, and curcumin and turmeron from the turmeric extract, effectively bind to viral envelope proteins when combined in appropriate proportions, thereby blocking viral cell invasion and inhibiting replication.
