Abstract

A spreader beam (40) for lifting a load, the spreader beam comprising: at least two load points (52), each load point being arranged to support a respective part of the load; a load sensing means (64) arranged to produce a signal indicating the magnitude of individual loads applied to each of the load points when the load is held; and a slope sensing means (62) arranged to produce a signal indicating an inclination of the spreader beam with respect to a horizontal plane.
