Abstract

The invention relates to a process for preparing a polymeric material or similar polymeric material comprising the following steps: providing a plant material comprising plant fibers, said plant fibers comprising plant cell walls containing celluloses, hemicelluloses, lignins, and protein compounds; hydrolyzing said plant material by immersing said material in an acidic, neutral, or basic liquid; and heating all of said liquid and the plant material to a temperature of at least 35°C, in order to obtain an aqueous extract of said plant fibers; and recovering said aqueous extract of said plant fibers. According to the invention, the process further comprises the following step: adding a protein gelling agent having at least one polypeptide to said aqueous extract.
