Abstract

The invention relates to an implantable accessory for use with a surgical stapling instrument. The implantable accessory includes means enabling a clinician to determine the degree of asymmetry, if any, that the accessory may exhibit when implanted in a subject with a surgical stapling instrument. The implantable accessory includes one or more reference systems configured to be compared to the staples, the edges of the accessory, and / or any other complementary element by a clinician after the accessory has been implanted in the subject. The reference system(s) include references that define one or more areas of the accessory. A clinician can visually determine which area(s) of the accessory the staples have satisfactorily and / or unsatisfactorily aligned with the accessory.
