Description

[0001] The invention relates to a mounting base for a square lock of a door opening, a door opening lock comprising such a base and a method of mounting a lock on a front wall of a door opening, in particular on a hollow profile of a door opening.

[0002] Throughout this text, the term "opening" refers to any part of a joinery structure, such as a door, window, or drawer, that is movable relative to a fixed frame of the joinery. In particular, the invention relates to openings with frames having a hollow profile, made of metal or synthetic material, for example.

[0003] Furthermore, throughout the text the term "flexibility" refers to the ability of a body to deform elastically in bending (under the effect of a force applied perpendicular to its length).

[0004] Many locks are already known to include a rotating handle that allows the bolt to be moved to lock or unlock the lock, thus closing or opening the door or window. This type of handle engages the bolt in a strike plate on the frame, locking the lock and the door or window in the closed position; or it disengages the bolt from the strike plate to unlock the lock and open the door or window. The bolt's movement results from a rotation of the operating handle. The operating handle is generally fixed to a square shaft (throughout this text, the term "square" refers to a shaft with a non-symmetrical cross-section of revolution—particularly a square—of a locking mechanism, designed to receive a rotating operating handle) and a transmission mechanism that transforms the rotational movement of the operating handle into the appropriate movement of the bolt. Such an operating handle is also generally designed to be used to move the door itself between its open and closed positions.

[0005] In addition, the square and the operating handle are preferably assembled to the opening by means of a non-slip pivot joint in order to eliminate any translational movement of the square and the operating handle relative to the opening.

[0006] The operating handle and / or the square are generally fixed to the front wall of the opening by a base.

[0007] FR 2877979 describes a lock mounted on a hollow door / window profile. The lock comprises an operating handle assembled to a support plate positioned against an external face of the profile and fixed to the profile by clamping screws attached to jaws that bear against an internal face of the profile when the screws are tightened. This assembly allows the front wall to be clamped between the jaws and the support plate, thus fixing the support plate to the profile. The support plate has a bore designed to receive and guide a rotating follower. A cylindrical recess in the base prevents any translational movement of the follower. The follower is attached to the operating handle by a screw that passes axially through the follower, thus making the follower and the operating handle rotationally fixed.

[0008] Installing such a lock, and more specifically attaching the mounting plate and handle to the frame, requires the use of numerous screws and the use of a screwdriver. Therefore, installing such a lock is relatively time-consuming and expensive. Furthermore, the installation is complex because it requires holding the base against the frame of the door or window in place before screwing it in.

[0009] The invention aims to overcome these drawbacks.

[0010] It therefore aims to offer a lock that can be mounted and dismounted on a hollow opening profile quickly, easily and economically.

[0011] The invention aims in particular to provide a mounting base for a square lock of a door opening adapted to be mounted quickly, easily and economically on a hollow profile of a door opening.

[0012] Its aim is in particular to offer a base that allows a square and a handle to be mounted without the use of tools.

[0013] To this end, the invention relates to a mounting base for a square lock on the front panel of a door or window, this front panel having an inner face defining a hollow cavity in the door or window and a through hole, the base comprising: a main body having a bore suitable for receiving a square key, means for fixing to the through-hole in the front wall of the opening, the fixing means comprising at least one flexible finger, called the locking finger, extending outward from the main body in a longitudinal direction, comprising: ∘ at least one hook: ▪ extending outward transversely to the longitudinal direction, ▪ arranged to be able to be inserted into the hole in the front wall of the opening from an external face of said front wall of the opening, opposite said internal face, ▪ having a locking surface arranged to be able to be placed, while the main body of the base is bearing against the external face of the front wall of the opening, at least partially against the internal face of the front wall of the opening, characterized in that it further comprises at least one flexible finger, said retaining finger: extending from the main body, comprising at least one hook having a locking face arranged to be able to be placed at least partially against a face, called the retaining face, of a lock square collar to assemble and lock the lock square against the main body of the base while allowing rotation of the lock square in the bore of the main body of the base.

[0014] A base according to the invention can be placed against an external face of a front wall of an opening in order to hold a square and a lock operating handle to the opening.

[0015] The flexibility of the locking pin allows it to be flexed so that its tip approaches a main axis of the bore in the main body, enabling its hook to be inserted into an opening in the front wall of the opening. This allows the base to be fitted into the front wall of the opening.

[0016] The flexibility of the retaining pin also allows it to return to at least approximately its resting position—that is, a position in which the retaining pin is not bent—when inserted into an opening in the front panel of a sash. In this position, the hook can be placed against the inner face of the sash. The hook of the retaining pin thus keeps the base engaged in the sash.

[0017] In some advantageous embodiments, the base includes two parallel retaining fingers positioned opposite each other around the bore of the main body of the base.

[0018] Thus, such a base can be assembled to a front panel of an opening without the use of tools.

[0019] Furthermore, such a base is suitable for assembly to any opening.

[0020] Furthermore, each retaining finger allows a lock square to be assembled and locked in translation to the main body of the base while allowing the lock square to rotate in the bore of the main body of the base.

[0021] More specifically, the square comprises a main stem and a collar, the latter being a portion of the square extending transversely around and projecting from the main stem.

[0022] The main body of the base therefore has a face, called the attachment face, forming the top of the base. The attachment face provides a stop bearing to hold the spindle to the base and prevent any translational movement of the spindle by holding the spindle's collar between the stop bearing and the locking surface of the hook on each retaining finger. The main body of the base also has a face, called the mounting face, facing downwards and opposite the attachment face, allowing the base to be assembled to the front panel of the opening.

[0023] Thus, each retaining finger extends opposite each locking finger from the main body of the base.

[0024] Such a base can thus be mounted or removed from the door, allowing the person mounting or removing the base to remain on the same side of the opening.

[0025] Indeed, each retaining finger is easily accessible because it is located outside the opening and on the side of the external face of the opening on which an operating handle can be mounted.

[0026] The flexibility of each retaining finger allows it to be flexed, increasing the distance between the retaining finger and the main axis of the base's bore. This allows the spindle collar to be inserted between the retaining finger's hook and the base's main body. Furthermore, when a spindle collar is inserted between the hook and the base's main body, each retaining finger returns to its resting position—that is, the position in which it is not flexed. In this position, the hook of each retaining finger rests against the retaining face of the spindle collar.

[0027] In some advantageous embodiments, the base includes two parallel retaining fingers positioned opposite each other around the bore of the main body of the base.

[0028] Thus, a square lock can be easily and quickly assembled to a base according to the invention.

[0029] Advantageously and according to the invention, said locking range of a hook of a locking finger is oriented obliquely, forming an obtuse angle with respect to the longitudinal direction of the locking finger.

[0030] This angled locking surface allows the base to adapt to different thicknesses of the front panel of a window or door, between its outer and inner faces. The base can therefore be assembled to a window or door regardless of the thickness of its front panel.

[0031] Thus, the locking surface is arranged so that, while the main body of the base is resting against the outer face of the front wall of the opening, it can be positioned against an edge of the through-hole in the front wall of the opening on the inner face of the front wall.

[0032] Furthermore, the said angled locking bearing also allows, after assembly of the base on the front wall, the extraction of the locking finger out of the orifice under the effect of a tensile force exerted on the main body tending to move the base away from the front wall.

[0033] Furthermore, a locking pin has a deformable structure, at least transversely, under compression on a front face opposite the hook. More specifically, the deformation can be plastic or elastic. This deformable structure allows the base to adapt to the thickness of the front panel of the opening. Indeed, depending on the thickness of the front panel of the opening, the spacing between the locking pins of the base varies, so that inserting the spindle can be more or less easy, or even impossible, when the spacing between the locking pins is too narrow. The ribs facilitate spindle insertion by being compressed by the spindle to adapt to the diameter of the thin section of the spindle's assembly cross-section. More specifically, the deformable structure can be formed by ribs extending transversely from the front face opposite the hook.

[0034] Furthermore, preferably, the hooking face of the main body of the base is able to be in contact with a face, called the resting face, of the collar of the lock square, opposite its retaining face, the hooking face being spaced one hook from each retaining finger by a distance at least substantially equal to the distance between the retaining face and the resting face of the collar.

[0035] Thus, a base according to the invention makes it possible to prevent any transverse movement of a lock square comprising a collar relative to the base.

[0036] In some advantageous embodiments of the invention, the main body of the base includes at least one peg arranged to be able to be inserted into a light in said front wall to lock the base in rotation relative to this front wall when the base is assembled to the front wall.

[0037] The pin therefore prevents a lock square from rotating a base according to the invention with which it is assembled when the latter is assembled to a front wall of an opening.

[0038] The invention also extends to a door lock intended to be assembled to a front panel of a door, this front panel having an internal face defining a hollow cavity of the door and a through hole, the lock comprising: a mechanism comprising a rotating square, an operating handle mounted on the square so as to be fixed to it during rotation, characterized in that it comprises a base according to the invention adapted to be able to be assembled to the opening of the opening and to the square of the lock.

[0039] More specifically, the lock square and the operating handle can form a single piece or two separate pieces.

[0040] In addition, the bore of the base allows the square of the lock to be guided in rotation in order to manipulate a bolt of the opening.

[0041] Furthermore, advantageously and according to the invention, each locking finger of the base is arranged in such a way that when the square is inserted into the bore of the main body of the base, the square prevents at least in part any bending of each locking finger in the direction of a disengagement of each hook from the inner face of the front wall of the opening, the base then being immovable from the front wall.

[0042] More specifically, the base's locking pin is clamped between the door leaf and the lock spindle. This assembly prevents the base's locking pin hook from being pulled out of the door leaf's front face when the lock spindle is inserted into the base's bore and extends at least as far as the locking pin.

[0043] In addition, the grip of the locking finger eliminates any play between the locking finger and the front wall of the opening.

[0044] Furthermore, the operating handle has a cavity, called the receiving cavity, which receives at least part of the square of the lock and the main body of the base.

[0045] More particularly, advantageously and according to the invention, said cavity for receiving the operating handle has a locking surface arranged to cooperate with each retaining finger of the base and to prevent, after assembly of the base, the square and the operating handle, any bending of this retaining finger of the base in the direction of a disengagement of each hook from the retaining face of the collar of the square.

[0046] Thus, when the collar of the square of the lock assembled to the base is positioned in the receiving cavity of the operating handle, the retaining finger is gripped between the locking face and the collar of the square, thus preventing the retaining finger from bending so that the square cannot be removed from the base.

[0047] More particularly, in an advantageous embodiment, the lock includes a quick assembly device for the square relative to the operating handle, this quick assembly device including at least one transverse pin with elastic return.

[0048] More specifically, such an assembly device allows the square to be assembled to the operating handle without the use of tools.

[0049] Furthermore, in certain advantageous embodiments, the lock also includes a shim positioned between the main body of the base, the shim being deformable in compression and having an orifice with a diameter greater than or equal to the bore diameter of the main body of the base. More specifically, the shim is elastically deformable. Such an elastic shim can be used when the distance between the main body of the base and a hook of a retaining finger is greater than the thickness of the collar, so as to provide clearance between the main body of the base and the bearing face of the square's collar. Such clearance may be necessary to ensure that the square's collar can be positioned between the hooks of the retaining fingers and the main body. The deformation of the elastic wedge allows the thickness of the wedge to be adapted so as to eliminate play when the collar is placed between the hooks of the retaining fingers and the main body so that such play is not felt by a person manipulating the operating handle.

[0050] The invention also extends to an opening comprising a lock according to the invention.

[0051] The invention also extends to a method of mounting a lock on the front panel of an opening, this front panel having an internal face defining a hollow cavity of the opening and a through hole, the lock comprising: an operating handle, a mechanism comprising a rotating square attached to the operating handle for rotation, the square extending axially from the operating handle, a process in which the square is assembled to the front wall of the opening by means of a base comprising: a main body having a bore suitable for receiving a square lock spindle for the opening, and means for fixing it to the through hole in the front wall of the opening, characterized in that a base according to the invention is used, and in that each locking finger is inserted into the opening in the front wall of the opening in a direction called the insertion direction, until each hook of each locking finger is placed at least partially against the inner face of the front wall of the opening.

[0052] Such a mounting method using a base according to the invention is simple, quick and requires no tools to assemble the base to the front wall of the opening.

[0053] Advantageously and according to the invention, the square of the lock is then introduced into the bore of the main body of the base, the square introduced into the bore preventing at least in part any bending of the locking finger.

[0054] Specifically, the lock's spindle is inserted into the bore of the main body of the base after the base has been assembled to the front panel of the door or window. The hook of the locking pin is then positioned against the inner face of the front panel of the door or window. Inserting the lock's spindle into the bore of the main body of the base prevents the locking pin from bending when the lock's spindle reaches the locking pin. This is because the lock's spindle is then in contact with the locking pin, so that the locking pin is held tightly between the spindle and the front panel of the door or window.

[0055] Furthermore, according to an advantageous embodiment, the square spindle is inserted into the bore of the main body of the base until each hook of each base retaining finger comes at least partially against a retaining face of a collar of the square spindle, and cooperates with this retaining face so as to axially lock the square spindle relative to the base while allowing their relative rotation. This step makes it possible to keep the lock square spindle assembled to the base. This step is sufficient to fix the operating handle to the front face of the door leaf when the operating handle and the lock square spindle form a single piece.

[0056] In certain embodiments of the invention, for example when the lock square and the operating handle are two separate parts, the operating handle is then engaged around the square and the main body of the base, the collar of the square and each retaining finger of the base being inserted into the receiving cavity of the operating handle with the locking face of this receiving cavity cooperating with each retaining finger so as to lock it in the blocking position.

[0057] This step allows the square assembly to be locked to the base in order to prevent any translational movement of the square.

[0058] In certain embodiments of the invention, for example when the lock square and the operating handle are two separate parts, the operating handle is assembled around the square until the quick assembly device is engaged.

[0059] More specifically, the assembly device is placed in a blind bore present on the square of the lock and in which is placed the spring whose first end is placed in contact with the bottom of the bore, the pin resting on a second end of the spring and being able to be placed in the bore of the square of the lock.

[0060] The invention also relates to a mounting base for a lock square on a front wall of an opening, an opening lock, an opening and a method for mounting a lock on a front wall of an opening characterized in combination by all or part of the characteristics mentioned above or below.

[0061] Other objects, features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description, which is given by way of non-limiting example and refers to the accompanying figures in which: there figure 1 is a perspective diagram of an embodiment of a base according to the invention, the figure 2 is a diagram, according to section A defined in the figure 6 , from the base of the figure 1 assembled to a front panel of the opening, the figure 3 is a diagram, according to section A defined in the figure 6 , from the base of the figure 1 assembled to a square of a lock according to the invention, the figure 4 is a perspective and exploded view diagram of a lock according to the invention, the figure 5 is a diagram, according to section A defined in the figure 6 , of the lock, represented at the figure 4 mounted on the front wall of an opening, the figure 6 is a diagram of the lock, represented at the figure 4 mounted on the front wall of an opening, the figure 7 is a diagram based on an axial cross-section of one half of the base of the figure 1 assembled to a front panel of the opening which has a thickness greater than that of the figure 2 .

[0062] A lock according to the invention mounted on an opening 32, shown in figures 1 à 6 The mechanism includes an operating handle 48 for manipulating a bolt of the opening 32 in order to open or close the opening 32. More specifically, the opening 32 comprises a front wall 34 having two opposing faces: a first face 36, called the inner face, oriented towards an interior side of the opening 32, and a second face 35, called the outer face, oriented towards an exterior side of the opening 32. Furthermore, the inner face 36 of the wall 34 defines a hollow cavity 60 of the opening. The operating handle 48 is positioned on the exterior side of the opening 32 against the outer face 35 and opposite an opening 33 passing through the wall 34 of the opening 32, with a portion of the square spindle 37 of the lock extending through the opening 33.

[0063] In order to manipulate the bolt of the opening 32, the lock also includes a square 37 capable of transmitting a rotational movement from the operating handle 48, the rotational movement enabling the manipulation of the bolt of the opening 32. More specifically, the lock square 37 is a rod, for example metallic.

[0064] More specifically, the square 37 is formed of an end, called the guided end 38, which is adapted to be rotationally fixed to the operating handle 48. The guided end 38 is advantageously parallelepiped in shape.

[0065] The square 37 is also formed of an end, called transmission end 39, suitable for being assembled with a mechanism for manipulating the bolt of the opening 32. The transmission end 39 is advantageously parallelepiped in shape.

[0066] Furthermore, the square 37 of the lock is assembled to the opening 32 by a base 20 according to the invention, shown in the figures 1 à 5 More specifically, the base 20 has a main body 21 comprising a bore 59 suitable for the passage of the lock square 37. Furthermore, when the base 20 is assembled to the opening 33 of the door leaf 32, the bore 59 of the base 20 is aligned with the opening 33 of the door leaf 32 so that the square 37 can pass through the bore 59 of the base 20 and the opening 33 of the door leaf 32 to reach an operating mechanism located in the hollow cavity 60 of the door leaf 32, allowing the bolt of the door leaf 32 to be manipulated. More specifically, the diameter of the bore of the main body 21 of the base 20 is smaller than the diameter of the opening 33 of the door leaf 32.

[0067] To assemble the square spindle 37 to the door leaf 32, the base 20 has a face, called the attachment face 58, forming the top of the base 20. The attachment face 58 provides a stop bearing to hold the square spindle 37 to the base 20 and prevent any translational movement of the spindle 37. The base 20 also has a face, called the recessed face 57, facing downwards, opposite the attachment face 58, which allows the base 20 to be assembled to the door leaf 32. The base 20 is advantageously made of a synthetic polymer material. Advantageously, the synthetic polymer material has a low coefficient of friction and a coefficient of elasticity that allows the base 20 to deform slightly during the assembly and disassembly of the lock.

[0068] In particular, the square 37 has between its two ends a tubular assembly section suitable for being positioned in the base 20. This section includes a cylindrical part, called the thin part, as well as a cylindrical collar 41 extending transversely around and projecting from the lower part, the collar 41 and the thin part being coaxial.

[0069] More specifically, in certain advantageous embodiments, the attachment face 58 of the base 20 comprises two fingers, referred to as retaining fingers 23, each projecting from the main body 21 towards the top of the base 20. Each retaining finger 23 has a front face, referred to as the external face, extending from the periphery of the main body 21. Furthermore, each retaining finger 23 projects from the main body 21 to an end having a hook 30 on a face, referred to as the internal face, opposite the external face of the retaining finger 23. More specifically, the retaining fingers 23 are positioned so as to be parallel and facing each other. Moreover, the internal face of each retaining finger 23 has, in cross-section, a radius of curvature similar to that of the collar 41 of the square 37 of the lock.

[0070] Furthermore, the retaining fingers 23 are flexible so that they can be spread apart to fit the collar 41 of the square 37 into the base 20. In addition, the retaining fingers 23 have a radial dimension at rest (i.e., their position before bending deformation), determined by the distance between the hooks 30, that is less than the diameter of the collar 41. The hooks 30 are positioned on a face 43, called the retaining face, of the collar 41. Moreover, the distance between the attachment face 58 of the main body 21 and each hook 30 is at least substantially equal to the height of the collar 41 so as to prevent any translational movement of the square 37 when the collar 41 is fitted into the base 20. Thus, when the collar 41 is assembled to the base 20, a face 42, called the bearing face, opposite the retaining face 43 of the collar 41, is positioned against the 58 attachment face of the base 20.Furthermore, the hook 30 of each retaining finger 23 has a bevel, oriented towards the top of the base 20, allowing the retaining fingers 23 to be easily spread apart by fitting the collar 41 into the base 20.

[0071] The attachment face 58 also includes two guide portions 25 for splitting the rotation of the square 37. More specifically, each guide portion 25 of the attachment face 58 extends the periphery of the main body 21 so that each one projects from the main body 21 towards the top of the base 20. More specifically, these two guide portions 25 are positioned opposite each other on an axis orthogonal to an axis passing through the center of the two retaining fingers 23. Each of these two guide portions 25 has a projection, called a tooth 63, adapted to cooperate with four grooves 62 present on the cylindrical face of the collar 41 of the square 37. Furthermore, the teeth 63 are positioned so as to be diametrically opposed and opposite each other.Furthermore, the grooves 62 are placed at 90° to each other so that the rotation of the square 37 is blocked every 90° when the teeth of the guide portions 25 come into position in diametrically opposed grooves 62 of the collar 41 of the square 37. The teeth are also adapted to come out of the grooves 62 when a rotation of the square 37 is carried out.

[0072] In certain advantageous embodiments, an elastic shim 55, with a diameter smaller than the distance between the retaining fingers 23, is placed on the main body 21 of the base 20 between the retaining fingers 23 of the base 20. Furthermore, the elastic shim 55 has an orifice with a diameter greater than or equal to the diameter of the bore of the main body of the base so that the square 37 can pass through it. Thus, when the square 37 is inserted into the base 20, the shim 55 is positioned between the main body 21 of the base 20 and the collar 41 of the square 37. Such an elastic shim 55 can be used when the distance between the main body 21 of the base 20 and the hook 30 of the retaining finger 23 is greater than the thickness of the collar 41, so as to provide clearance between the main body 21 of the base 20 and the face 42 support of the collar 41 of the square 37.Such play may be necessary to ensure that the collar 41 of the square 37 can be positioned between the hooks 30 of the retaining fingers 23 and the main body 21. The deformation of the elastic wedge 55 allows its thickness to be adjusted to eliminate this play when the collar 41 is positioned between the hooks 30 of the retaining fingers 23 and the main body 21, so that such play is not felt by a person operating the control handle.

[0073] The mounting face 57 of the base 20 comprises two fingers, called mounting fingers 22, each projecting from the main body 21 towards the underside of the base 20. Each finger has a first frontal face, called the inner face, extending axially from the bore 59 of the base 20. Furthermore, each mounting finger 22 projects from the main body 21 to an end having a hook 29 projecting transversely from a second frontal face, called the outer face, opposite the inner face. More specifically, the mounting fingers 22 are positioned so as to be parallel and facing each other. In addition, the inner face of each 22 of the fixed finger has in cross section a radius of curvature similar to that of the section of the bore 59 of the base 20 which it extends. The inner face of each retaining finger 22 also has, in cross-section, a radius of curvature similar to that of the bore 59 of the base 20 which it extends. Furthermore, the distance between the outer faces of the retaining fingers 22 is less than the diameter of the opening 33 of the door 32. In addition, the retaining fingers 22 have a radial dimension at rest, determined by the distance between the hooks 29, greater than the diameter of the opening 33 of the door 32.

[0074] Furthermore, the retaining fingers 22 are flexible so that they can be brought together to fit the base 20 into the opening 33 of the sash 32. When the base 20 is fitted into the opening 33 of the sash 32, the retaining fingers 22 move apart to at least substantially return to their rest position, that is, a position in which the finger is not bent. Thus, a locking surface 61, oriented towards the top of the base 20, of each hook 29 of each retaining finger 22 comes to rest against the inner face 36 of the wall 34 of the sash 32 around the opening 33 of the sash 32 in the hollow cavity 60.More specifically, the locking bearing 61 is arranged so that it can be placed, while the main body 21 of the base 20 is supported against the external face 35 of the front wall 34 of the opening 32, against an edge of the orifice 33 passing through the front wall 34 of the opening on the internal face 36 of the front wall 34.

[0075] Furthermore, the hook 29 of each locking finger 22 has a bevel, oriented towards the underside of the base 20, allowing the locking fingers 22 to be brought together easily by fitting the base 20 into the orifice 33 of the opening 32.

[0076] Furthermore, the locking face 61 of each hook 29 of each locking finger 22 is angled to facilitate bringing the locking fingers 22 together by removing the base 20 from the opening 33 of the sash 32. In addition, this locking face 61 allows the hook 29 to adapt to walls 34 of the sash 32 of different thicknesses as shown in the figure 7 .

[0077] Furthermore, each locking pin 22 includes a deformable structure on its inner face, opposite the lock's spindle 37. This structure can be formed by ribs 31 and allows the base to be adapted to the thickness of the front wall 34 of the opening sash 32. Indeed, depending on the thickness of the front wall 34 of the opening sash 32, the gap between the locking pins 22 of the base 20 varies, so that inserting the spindle 37 can be more or less easy, or even impossible, when the gap between the locking pins 22 is too narrow. The ribs 31 facilitate the insertion of the spindle 37 by being compressed by the spindle 37 to adapt to the diameter of the thin part of the spindle's assembly section.

[0078] Furthermore, to allow the base 20 to adapt to different thicknesses of the front wall 34 of the opening 32, the mounting face 57 also includes contact projections 27 extending from the main body 21 of the base 20 towards the underside of the part. These contact projections 27 have a cylindrical shape of revolution. More specifically, these contact projections 27 have a diameter between 1 mm and 4 mm, for example approximately 2.5 mm, and a height between 0 mm and 3 mm, for example approximately 0.8 mm. The contact projections 27 are arranged circularly on the face 57 of the base 20. More particularly, the distance between the contact projections 27 and the hooks 29 of the mounting fingers 22 allows us to define a range of wall thicknesses 34 of the opening 32 for which the base is suitable. Thus, modifying the height of the contact projections 27 allows a base 20 to be adapted to all wall thicknesses 34 front of opening 32.

[0079] The recessed face 57 also includes two guide portions 24 extending from the bore so that each projects from the main body 21 towards the underside of the base 20. More specifically, these two guide portions 24 are positioned opposite each other on an axis orthogonal to an axis passing through the center of the two recessed fingers 22. Furthermore, the two guide portions 24 of the recessed face 57 have a radius of curvature identical to that of the cross-section of the bore 59 of the base 20 which it extends. The two portions also have a height less than that of the recessed fingers 22. These guide portions 24 allow the square spindle 37 of the lock to be rotated and prevent any contact between the square spindle 37 of the lock and the front face 34 of the door leaf 32.

[0080] The mounting face 57 also includes two dowels 26 extending projecting from the main body 21 towards the underside of the base 20. Each dowel 26 is suitable for placement in an opening 33 of the sash 32. When the dowels 26 are inserted into slots in the wall 34 of the sash 32 placed around the opening 33 of the sash 32, they prevent any rotation of the base 20 relative to the sash 32. More specifically, the two dowels 26 are positioned opposite each other on the axis on which the two guide portions 24 of the mounting face 57 are placed. The dowels 26 thus prevent the square 37 from rotating the base 20 with which it is assembled when the latter is assembled to the front wall 34 of the opening 32.

[0081] The recessed face 57 also includes recesses 28 on the underside of the base 20. The recesses 28 allow the base 20 to be easily detached from the opening 32 to which it is assembled, with the help of a lever such as a flat-ended screwdriver for example.

[0082] Furthermore, the operating handle 48 has an end 53, called the operating end, allowing the operating handle 48 to be handled and an end 54, called the guiding end, assembled securely in rotation to the square 37. More particularly, the guiding end 54 includes a cavity, called the receiving cavity 49, in which the guided end 38 and the collar 41 of the square 37 are placed, as well as the fingers 23 for retaining the base 20.

[0083] More specifically, the cavity 49 for receiving the operating handle 48 includes a first bore 50 opening outwards from the outside of the operating handle 48 and a second bore 51, with a cross-section smaller than that of the first bore 50, opening onto the first bore 50, the two bores extending along parallel axes.

[0084] In some embodiments, the guided end 38 of the square 37 is recessed into the second bore 51. Thus, the square 37 is securely attached to the operating handle 48. Furthermore, the collar 41 and the retaining fingers 23 of the base 20 are positioned in the first bore 50.

[0085] More particularly, said receiving cavity 49 has a shoulder between the first and second bore 51. This shoulder is spaced from the retaining face 43 of the collar 41 of the square 37 at a distance greater than or equal to a length of the hook 30 of the retaining fingers 23 of the base 20 so that the hook 30 of each retaining finger 23 can be positioned between the retaining face 43 and the shoulder of the receiving cavity 49.

[0086] In certain advantageous embodiments of the invention, particularly when the operating handle 48 and the square 37 form two separate parts, it is preferable for the square 37 to be held to the operating handle 48 while still being easily mounted and removed from the operating handle 48. To achieve this, the square 37 is inserted into the second bore 51 of the receiving cavity 49 of the operating handle 48. The second bore 51 has a main cross-section sufficiently larger than that of the guided end 38 of the square 37 so that the square 37 can be easily inserted into and removed from the second bore 51 of the receiving cavity 49. Furthermore, an assembly device prevents any translational movement of the square 37 relative to the operating handle 48 in order to keep the square 37 assembled to the operating handle 48.More specifically, the assembly device comprises a pin 47, placed in a transverse blind bore 44 of the guided end 38 of the square 37, with elastic return provided by a spring 46. One end of the spring 46 is assembled to the bottom of the blind bore 44, and a second end is assembled to the pin 47. Thus, the spring 46 exerts a transverse force on the pin 47, allowing the pin 47 to protrude from the square 37 so that it enters a bore in the operating handle 48, called the assembly bore 52. One end of this bore opens onto the second bore 51 of the receiving cavity 49 and is orthogonal to it when the guided end 38 of the square 37 is inserted into this second bore 51. Furthermore, the assembly bore 52 has a second end opening outside the operating handle 48.In addition, the assembly device is adapted so that the pin 47 enters the bore 44 of the guided end 38 of the square 37 when a pushing force, opposite and greater than the force exerted by the spring 46 on the pin 47, is exerted on the pin 47.

[0087] In certain advantageous embodiments of the invention, particularly when the operating handle 48 and the square 37 form two separate parts, the receiving cavity 49 has at least one locking face 56 in the first bore 50 adapted to be in contact with at least one retaining finger 23 when the operating handle 48 is assembled to the locking square 37 held by the base 20. Such a locking face 56 thus prevents any bending movement of the retaining finger 23 against which it is positioned. The locking face 56 therefore prevents the square 37 from being removed from the base 20.

[0088] The assembly of a lock according to the invention comprises a first step in which the base 20 is fitted into the opening 33 of the door leaf 32. More specifically, the fitting consists of inserting the two locking fingers 22 of the base 20 into the opening 33 of the door leaf 32 by applying a pushing force to the base 20 towards the inner side of the door leaf 32. This forces the two locking fingers 22 of the base 20 closer together by bending, so that the distance between the hooks 29 is greater than the diameter of the opening 33 of the door leaf 32. When the base 20 is fitted into the opening 33 of the door leaf 32, the locking surface 61 of the hooks 29 of the locking fingers 22 is positioned against the inner face 36 of the wall 34 of the door leaf. 32.Thus, the base 20 is assembled to the opening 32 but can still be removed from the orifice 33 by exerting a pulling force towards the outside side of the opening 32 allowing the locking fingers 22 to be brought together by bending so that the distance between the hooks 29 is less than the diameter of the orifice 33 of the opening 32, the hooks 29 then no longer being in contact with the inner face 36 of the wall 34 of the opening 32.

[0089] In certain advantageous embodiments, after fitting the base 20 into the opening 32, an elastic wedge 55 can be placed on the hooking face 58 of the main body 21. Then, the lock square 37 is inserted into the bore of the main body 21 of the base 20 until its collar 41 fits between the main body 21 of the base 20 and the hooks 30 of the retaining fingers 23. More specifically, a pushing force is exerted on the square 37 towards the inner side of the opening 32 so that the collar 41 spreads apart by bending the retaining fingers 23 of the base 20 so that the distance between the hooks 30 is greater than the diameter of the collar 41 in order to introduce the collar 41 between the main body 21 of the base 20 and the hook 30 of each retaining finger 23.The hooks 30 are then positioned against the retaining face 43 of the collar 41, thus holding the square 37 in the base 20 and eliminating any translational movement of the square 37 relative to the base 20 and the opening 32. In addition, the introduction of the square 37 into the base 20 allows the thin part of the assembly section of the square 37 to be positioned against the locking fingers 22 and thus eliminating any bending of the locking fingers 22 of the base 20, thereby preventing the base 20 from being removed from the opening 33 of the opening 32 when a pulling force is exerted on the outside of the opening 32.

[0090] In certain embodiments of the invention, particularly those in which the square 37 and the operating handle 48 form a single piece, these two steps are sufficient to assemble the operating handle 48 to the opening 32.

[0091] In certain other embodiments of the invention, particularly those in which the square 37 and the operating handle 48 form two separate parts, it is necessary to assemble the operating handle 48 to the square 37 already inserted into the base 20 which is fitted into the opening 32. Thus, the operating handle 48 is engaged on the square 37 so that the guided end 38 and the collar 41 of the square 37, as well as the retaining fingers 23 of the base 20, are inserted into the receiving cavity 49 of the operating handle 48. More specifically, the guided end 38 of the square 37 is inserted into the second bore 51 of the receiving cavity 49, while the collar 41 of the square 37 and the retaining fingers 23 of the base 20 are positioned in the first bore 50 of the receiving cavity 49.In particular, the guided end 38 of the square 37 is inserted into the second bore 51 so that the pin 47 is oriented towards the assembly bore 52 of the operating handle 48. Thus, the operating handle 48 cannot be disassembled from the square 37 by applying a pulling force towards the outside of the opening 32.

[0092] Furthermore, when the operating handle 48 is mounted on the square 37, the retaining fingers 23 of the base 20 come to be positioned between the collar 41 of the square 37 and the locking face 56 of the cavity of the operating handle 48 so that any bending movement of the retaining fingers 23 is neutralized, thus preventing the square 37 from being removed from the base 20 by exerting a pulling force on it towards the outside of the opening 32.

[0093] In certain embodiments of the invention, in which the square 37 and the operating handle 48 form two separate parts, the disassembly of the lock includes a first step in which a pushing force is exerted on the pin 47 opposite to the force exerted by the spring 46 on the latter in order to drive the pin 47 into the bore 44 of the guided end 38 of the square 37. For example, it is possible to exert such a pushing force by inserting a rod, such as an Allen key, into the assembly bore 52 from the outside of the handle, until the pin 47 is pressed down so as to drive it into the bore 44 of the guided end 38 of the square 37. Thus, the operating handle 48 can be removed from the square 37 of the lock.Furthermore, removing the operating handle 48 also allows the holding fingers 23 to be freed from their grip, the holding fingers 23 no longer being in contact with the locking surface 56 of the cavity of the operating handle 48, so that the holding fingers 23 can be flexed.

[0094] The dismantling of a lock according to the invention also includes a step in which the retaining fingers 23 are spread apart so that the distance between the hooks 30 is greater than the diameter of the collar 41 in order to remove the collar 41 from the base 20. Furthermore, removing the square 37 from the base 20 also makes it possible to release the locking fingers 22 from their grip, the locking fingers 22 no longer being in contact with the square 37, so that the locking fingers 22 can be flexed.

[0095] Next, the base 20 can be removed from the opening 33 of the opening 32 by exerting a pulling force towards the outside of the opening 32 in order to bring together by bending the locking fingers 22 of the base 20 so that the distance between the hooks 29 is less than the diameter of the opening 33.
