ANTIMICROBIAL COMPOSITIONS AND HYDROGEN PEROXIDE-RELEASING FORMULATIONS

Abstract

Compositions for generating antimicrobial activity are described. These compositions comprise: a first phase; a second phase; an enzyme capable of converting a substrate to release hydrogen peroxide; and a substance that includes a substrate for the enzyme, the first and second phases being immiscible. The compositions can be formulated as colloids, suspensions, or emulsions, particularly as creams or sprays. Manufacturing processes for these compositions are described, as well as their use in the treatment of antimicrobial infections.
