Abstract

Remote animal location system comprising a plurality of location units (2), each wearable by a respective animal and comprising a gps receiver (7) for acquiring the geographic position and a radio transceiver (5) operating in at least a first frequency band for transmitting a first signal (ps, rs) containing the position and identity data of the location unit (2); at least one additional receiving unit (4), comprising an active antenna (10) operating in the first frequency band for receiving the first signal (ps, rs), control means (23) for extracting data from the first signal (ps, rs) and a radio transceiver (22) operating in a second frequency band for transmitting a second signal (ws) containing the data extracted from the first signal (ps, rs);and a portable device (3) equipped with radio transceiver means (11, 19) operating in the first and second frequency bands to receive the first signal (ps, rs) and the second signal (ws).;
