Abstract

<pre>This invention relates to an innovative process for the reduction of hexavalent chromium in contaminated soils, using phytoremediation by rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) in combination with crustacean exoskeletons, in particular those of the crab Maja squinado. The process involves preparing the soil by incorporating crushed exoskeletons to facilitate the complexation and precipitation of chromium, followed by planting rosemary seedlings. The plants are grown for six months, with controlled watering to optimize the absorption of heavy metals. After harvesting, rosemary can be used for the extraction of essential oils, while ensuring a significant reduction of chromium in the soil. This process offers a sustainable and ecological solution for soil decontamination, while valorizing the cultivated plants.< / pre>
