Abstract

The present invention belongs to the technical field of chemistry applied to processes involved in the construction industry. This invention addresses the problem of utilizing mining and metallurgical waste, the accumulation of which poses environmental and public health risks due to the dispersion of fine particles in the air and their potential toxicity. Furthermore, it responds to the need to develop sustainable, high-quality construction materials with improved properties in terms of water absorption, permeability, and structural strength. The proposed solution consists of an industrial process that incorporates an additive of cactus seeds, specifically Opuntia spp., Nopalea, and Cylindropuntia, into a ceramic mixture of mining and metallurgical waste. This additive gives the material improved properties, including lower permeability and greater resistance to crack propagation, which allows for ceramic products with durability and structural behavior suitable for applications in the construction industry.
