Abstract
The present invention uses real-world data collected through Intelligent Intersection (II) systems to associate it with data from a digital map or Geographic Information System (GIS) of a city or urban area. The real-world data obtained with the II systems can include information related to vehicular traffic, pedestrian flow, accidents, public works, and other relevant data, while the GIS data can include spatial and non-spatial data that define a map or urban area in detail.Thus, in the present invention, GIS system information, in conjunction with information obtained from information systems, can be used to generate a current and future virtual reality environment for urban design and planning, to generate a driver training simulator that includes the redesign of streets and avenues, or simply to improve traffic flow through efficient intersection control. To achieve this technical objective, the virtual reality environment generation system of the present invention comprises a 3D graphics engine in operational communication with a virtual reality platform. Through this communication, it is possible to create a future 3D city model of an urban environment based on GIS system data and information obtained from real-world information systems.The data collected by the SI systems are used to modify in real time the virtual reality environment executed by the virtual reality platform and to redesign the urban environment considering at least the factors of infrastructure, mobility, environment and zoning of said environment.
