Abstract
The present invention describes polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) of the polyphenol curcumin and their use as an antiparasitic agent, specifically evaluated against the parasites E. histolytica and T. vaginalis. The curcumin nanoparticles encapsulated in the polymer proved more effective than the non-encapsulated form. None of the formulations exhibited hemolytic activity on human erythrocytes at concentrations active against these parasites. The present invention pertains to the field of pharmaceutical technology and natural products used for the treatment of parasitic diseases of public health importance.
