Abstract

An intake valve camshaft (5) is rotatably held by a cam housing (7) fixed to a cylinder head (2), and is arranged at a position higher than the cylinder head (2). A rearward protrusion (28a) of a body case (28) constituting an electric variable valve timing device (19) is tightly fitted into a variable valve timing positioning hole (13) provided in an upper support portion (12) of a chain cover (3), and is loosely fitted into a variable valve timing attachment hole (17) provided in a front wall (16) of a head cover (4). An exposed portion (28b) of the body case (28) is fixed to the front wall (16) of the head cover (4) with a bolt (21). The lower end surface of the front wall (16) of the head cover (4) is in contact with a flange (35) projecting from the chain cover (3) via a sealer (36). Figure 4
