Abstract

There is disclosed a catheter assembly (100) comprising: a needle hub (106) with a needle (108) having a needle tip (110); a catheter tube (104) attached to a catheter hub (102) having a body comprising an interior surface defining an interior cavity (130), the needle (108) extending through the catheter tube (104); a valve (136) positioned in the interior cavity (130) of the catheter hub (102), said valve (136) comprising at least one slit (324) and two or more flaps (326); a valve opener (134) comprising a nose section (150) having an activation end (166), at least one plunger element (152) having a proximal end surface for pushing by a male medical implement; a needle guard (132) comprising a resilient arm (288) extending in a distal direction of a proximal wall (280) comprising a perimeter (282) defining an opening (290), the needle tip is configured for blocking the needle tip (110) characterized in that the needle guard (132) extends through a relief or through passage (61) of the valve opener (134).
