Abstract

The present invention discloses a method of producing an yttrium-90 radiopharmaceutical and a beta-emitting yttrium-90 thereof. The method comprises the steps of providing a stabilised yttrium oxide; and irradiating, in a radiation reactor, the stabilised yttrium oxide with a neutron flux of about 1-10 x 1013 n / cm2 / s for complete transmutation to a beta-emitting yttrium-90 radionuclide for use in a radiation therapeutic treatment. The present invention presents an advancement in producing effective radiopharmaceuticals for therapeutic purposes.
