Abstract
A semirigid pouch (10) for storing and dispensing foodstuffs, comprising: a base (200) comprising a base perimeter (202), wherein the base perimeter (202) comprises a perimeter surface (204), wherein the base (200) is formed from a single sheet of stock material, and wherein the base (200) is fully closed; a semirigid wall (100) comprising an upper edge (102) and a lower edge (104), wherein the upper edge (102) comprises a first upper edge seal portion (106) and a second upper edge seal portion (108), and wherein the lower edge (104) of the semirigid wall (100) is affixed about the perimeter surface (204) of the base (200), wherein the semirigid wall (100) is about 150â¯microns to about 250â¯microns thick, and wherein the base (200) is thicker than the semirigid wall (100); and an upper seal (130) formed by affixing the first upper edge seal portion (106) to the second upper edge seal portion (108), thereby forming a space to hold the foodstuffs, wherein the upper seal (130) is configured to be opened to access the space to hold the foodstuffs; wherein the semirigid pouch (10) is configured to maintain a substantially consistent three dimensional shape during and following dispensing of the foodstuffs. A semi rigid pouch with a fully closed base that maintains its three dimensional shape during and after dispensing, enabling improved stability, usability, and compatibility with existing rigid packaging recycling streams.
