Abstract

A method of establishing a fluid coupling between a port and a manifold comprising: advancing the port into a receptacle of the manifold until the port reaches a first position in which a cover of the port is spaced from a piercing member of the receptacle and a first sealing member of the port is in a sealing relationship against a sidewall of the receptacle; bathing the port in high temperature fluid flowing from the piercing member to a disinfection flow path in communication with the receptacle for a predetermined period of time; advancing the port into the receptacle to a second position in which the piercing member has punctured through the cover on the port and a second sealing member of the port has formed a seal against the sidewall of the receptacle between the piecing member and the disinfection flow path.
