Nutrient loss reduction method, uses and products

Abstract

The invention relates to methods, uses and products which can be used to reduce the loss of nutrients, particularly from farm systems. The nutrients are generally those excreted by an animal. In preferred aspects the invention relates to methods, uses and plant material for reducing the rate at which nitrogenous compounds excreted in the urine of an animal are lost from practical utility. Mechanisms of loss may involve nitrification and possibly denitrification to produce compounds that can be leached and / or released to the atmosphere as gaseous compounds. This invention has particular application to domesticated animals, particularly sheep and cows, although this should not be seen as limiting.
