Abstract

A lumbar puncture needle with an integrated barometric pressure change detection and hematology discrimination system of the type comprising a cylindrical tube having one threaded end while its other end has attached a surgical steel cannula with an inner volume treated with a hydrophobic coating, characterized in that: the cylindrical tube has a transverse compartment at the end corresponding to the cannula where said compartment functions as a contrast window presenting an opaque background, while inside there is a chromatic reaction matrix impregnated with reduced phenolphthalein and sodium perborate;The rest of the cylindrical tube apart from the compartment is divided into two halves by a longitudinal chamber separator, so that one half is the flow conduit through which the collected liquid flows after passing through the cannula and the contrast window, while the other half is the outlet chamber which has a nozzle for expelling the liquid out of the cylindrical tube.
