A BIOPOLYMER COMPOSITION FOR THE GENERATION OF A SUPERABSORBENT HYDROGEL FOR USE IN AGRICULTURE

Abstract

A biopolymeric composition is presented for the generation of a superabsorbent hydrogel, comprising at least: a) a matrix composed of a mixture of polysaccharides; b) a hydrolyzable physical crosslinking agent derived from tannins; and c) a chemical crosslinking agent of natural origin. This biopolymeric composition is presented in the form of a dry powder, which, when applied to soils and in contact with water, forms the superabsorbent hydrogel. The hydrogel has a water absorption capacity greater than 100 g / g and can store not only water but also water-dissolved substances such as salts, fertilizers, or agrochemicals, making it suitable for the release of water and other substances for agronomic use.
