Xestoquinone and analogues thereof as Anti-inflammatory agent and extraction thereof

Abstract

The present invention discloses anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective use of Xestoquinone, 2:1 mixture of 14- and 15-methoxyxestoquinones, 14hydroxymethylxestoquinone, and 15-hydroxymethylxestoquinone obtained from marine sponge Neopetrosia compacta. The anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective properties are tested based on the production of nitric oxide (NO), downregulation of transcript levels of interleukin 1b (IL1b) and Nos2 in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulated RAW264.7 macrophage cells and assessment of the Keap1 / Nrf2- ARE pathway using in vitro alkylation assay and cell-based Nrf2-luciferase reporter assay. Furthermore, the present invention discloses the extraction of said compounds from Neopetrosia compacta.
