A process for producing a culture medium supplemented with rice bran extract for banana tissue culture

Abstract

The utility model discloses a process for producing an improved culture medium for banana tissue culture by supplementing it with rice bran extract comprising the steps of weighing half strength Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium powder, 6benzylaminopurine (BAP), sucrose, and agar;soaking rice bran in distilled water for an hour; filtering the mixture to separate solid residues and obtain the rice bran extract; measuring 100ml of rice bran extract; mixing the MS medium powder, sucrose, and BAP with the rice bran extract; adjusting final volume to 1 liter with distilled water; measuring initial pH of the medium; adjusting the pH of the medium to pH 5.7; adding agar to the medium; heating the medium; and sterilizing the medium at 121 °C at 15 psi for 30 minutes. The medium developed in this process was cost-effective and proven to effectively support growth of tissue-cultured banana plantlets.
