Abstract
The present utility model relates to a process for fabricating a biodegradable mycelium-based egg tray using agricultural residues and fungal mycelium. Coconut coir and rice husk serve as lignocellulosic substrates, while Pleurotus ostreatus mycelium acts as a biological binding agent. Recycled cooking oil is used as a hydrophobic coating to enhance moisture resistance. The process involves preparing and blending coconut coir and rice husk, sterilizing the mixture, and inoculating it with Pleurotus ostreatus spawn. The inoculated substrate is then molded and incubated under controlled conditions to allow full mycelial colonization. After incubation, the composite is dried to terminate fungal growth and stabilize the structure. Finally, a coating of recycled cooking oil is applied to improve water resistance. The resulting egg tray is a biodegradable molded product derived from renewable agricultural waste, producing a structurally stable and moisture-resistant packaging material.
