Abstract

A computer vision system for tracking entity dwell time comprising a desktop computer system unit executing an entity tracking software module, a display monitor functionally linked to the system unit, and a web camera member communicatively linked to the system unit, the entity tracking software module analyzing real-time video frames using an object detection algorithm and a multiobject tracking algorithm, maintaining a short-term track memory of tracks having persistent identifiers, defining one or more dwell zones as polygonal regions, detecting entry event and exit event based on a centroid relative to the polygonal region, computing dwell duration from corresponding timestamps, and generating visual indicators overlaid on the real-time video frames. Conventional systems typically rely on physical sensors or simplified detection mechanisms resulting in limited accuracy. This utility model provides detection, tracking, and dwell zone duration using real-time video processing.
