Abstract
Copper chloride has various applications in the fields of agriculture and industry. A process for the preparation of copper chloride has been developed it has many advantages over the existing processes of its production which have been mentioned in our patent application. Copper chloride has been prepared by reacting aqueous solutions of copper sulphate and caustic soda, precipitates of copper hydroxide formed are reacted with hydrochloric acid solution lo form copper chloride in the reaction mixture that is filtered and evaporated to concentrate and crystalize. The crystals are separated and dried below 100°C to get copper chloride dihydrate (CuCl2. 2H2O) and dried at 110-130oC to obtain anhydrous copper chloride (CuCl2). The process developed is simple, economically and technologically feasible and can be utilized for indigenous production on local technology.
