A Process for Production of Iron Supplementary Drink

Abstract

A process for production of Iron Supplementary Drink (ISD) has been developed, which comprises on two parts (a) and (b). In (a) iron oxide saccharated of food grade has been produced when ferric hydroxide, sugar and sodium hydroxide in a specific ratio were heated at 13°C for 5 hours in an oven. pH of the complex was 9.8, Iso-electric point 4.2 5.0, Density 1.073, Viscosity 13.84 while in process (b) the sugar base syrup was produced which contains sugar, citric acid, preservatives (methyl-p-hydroxy benzoate, propyl hydroxyl benzoate), carboxy methyl cellulose, colour, flavour and iron oxide saccharated prepared in process (a) was compounded by constant stirring for 6 hours to make iron supplementary drink to he used as food supplement, it is a syrup containing iron I mg / ml to supplement the daily requirement of iron of anaemic person, up to 15mg (one table spoon). pH of the supplement is maintained at 7.00.
