Abstract

The present invention relates to a polyherbal formulation for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, particularly Type II diabetes. The formulation comprises a synergistic combination of medicinal plant extracts, including 30% by weight of Opuntia ficus-indica, 20% by weight of Rhus coriaria, 20% by weight of Syzygiurn cumini, 20% by weight of Eclipta alba, and 10% by weight of Coffea arabica. These plant extracts are processed using microwave-assisted ethanol extraction, followed by solvent evaporation to obtain bioactive compounds. The formulation exhibits α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, effectively reducing postprandial hyperglycemia while also possessing hypolipidemic effects (Figure 3). It is formulated in powder, tablet, or capsule form for oral administration. The recommended dosage ranges from 200 mg / kg to 600 mg / kg body weight to achieve optimal blood glucose regulation without inducing hypoglycemia. Additionally, the formulation has been evaluated for safety, demonstrating no toxicity to vital organs such as the liver and kidneys (Figure 2). This invention offers a safe and effective alternative to conventional antidiabetic drugs, providing dual benefits of glycemic and lipid control with minimal adverse effects.
