Method of producing paramagnetic nanografenes

Abstract

The invention provides a method for producing paramagnetic nanographenes, particularly useful in organic and molecular electronics systems. The method involves irradiating a precursor, preferably at a concentration of 1 mM, in a dilute organic solution with visible light for several to several dozen hours at a temperature of -70° to +150°C, preferably at +20° to +40°C. The nanographenes (1) are then isolated by evaporation of the solution and chromatographic purification, followed by crystallization. The light source can be any light source, in particular a halogen lamp or sunlight.
