Novel ammonium ionic liquid, method for its preparation and use

Abstract

The subject of the application is an ammonium ionic liquid, a method for its preparation, and its use. An ammonium ionic liquid from the group of quaternary ionic liquids of formula 1, which is benzalkonium propionate, consists of a propionic acid anion and a benzalkonium cation, wherein the benzalkonium cation contains ammonium nitrogen bonded to four substituents: two methyl groups, R1, which is a benzyl group, and R2, which is a long-chain alkyl group, of which 60% is a dodecyl group containing 12 carbon atoms, and 40% is a tetradecyl group with 14 carbon atoms.The method of obtaining the ammonium ionic liquid of formula 1, which is benzalkonium propionate, is characterized in that the alkylammonium halide of formula 2, in which R1 is a benzyl group and R2 is a long-chain alkyl group in which 60% is a dodecyl group containing 12 carbon atoms, while 40% is a tetradecyl group with 14 carbon atoms, is reacted with potassium propionate in an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide, at a temperature not exceeding the boiling point of the solvent, after which the product is separated from the post-reaction mixture.
