Innovative process for resveratrol purification by co-crystallization

Abstract

The invention relates to a process for advanced purification of raw resveratrol for pharmaceutical and technological applications. According to the invention, the process consists of the following steps: preparing the resveratrol-piperazine co-crystal solvated with tetrahydrofuran (THF) by mixing raw resveratrol with at least 20% polydatin as an impurity, piperazine and THF, heating with or without sonication and controlled cooling to promote co-crystal formation, isolation by filtration under vacuum, with washing, desolvation by the use of a non-polar solvent or by exposure to high temperature and humidity while obtaining the anhydrous form of resveratrol-piperazine co-crystal, isolation by vacuum filtration, to result in a high-quality crystalline solid with no impurities.
