Procedure for preparing a hydrophobic eutectic solvent and its application for simultaneous removal of selected organic micropollutants from water

Abstract

The subject of this invention represents a method for obtaining an innovative hydrophobic natural eutectic solvent (extractant), as well as its application for the simultaneous removal of organic micropollutants (pesticides, pharmaceutically active compounds and perfluorinated compounds) from water by liquid-liquid extraction. The extractant is obtained by combining environmentally friendly components (menthol, thymol and camphor) under mild reaction conditions. The removal efficiency of organic micropollutants from a mixture of 38 compounds was tested using the prepared menthol-thymol-camphor solvent, with the total content of the tested micrоpollutants being reduced by 98%.
