Claims

1. A method for a decoder to determine a processing order for multiple metadata messages, the method comprising the steps of: receive an input video bitstream and corresponding input metadata messages specifying additional processing to be applied to decoded video images of the input video bitstream; parse the input metadata messages to identify a metadata message processing order message (PMP) that specifies the preferred order of processing of a set of selected input metadata messages; and upon detection (305) of a PMP message: for at least one of the selected input metadata messages, respectively the i-th input metadata message: detecting (310) in the identified ROM message whether the wrapping flag corresponding to the i-th input metadata message is set to 1, which indicates that the i-th input metadata message is wrapped in the identified ROM message, and if the wrap flag is set to 1, then read the content of the i-th input metadata message from the identified ROM message; and for each of the selected input metadata messages, respectively the i-th input metadata message: determine (320) the preferred processing order for this i-th input metadata message from the identified ROM message.

2. The method according to paragraph 1, additionally comprising: for at least one of the selected input metadata messages, respectively the i-th input metadata message: detect (335) in the ROM message whether the importance flag corresponding to the said i-th input metadata message is set to 1, which classifies that the correct interpretation of the processing order of this i-th input metadata message is important; If the importance flag is set to 1 and if the decoder does not recognize or support the i-th input metadata message, then skip processing the ROM message and process the i-th input metadata message, ignoring any identified processing order in the ROM message.

3. The method according to claim 1 or 2, further comprising the step of: applying selected input metadata messages with their preferred processing order to the decoded video image of the input video bitstream.

4. The method according to claim 1 or 2, further comprising the step of: if the wrapping flag for the i-th input metadata message is set equal to 1, then if its preferred processing order, determined from the parameter po_sei_processing_order[i]) in the ROM message, is not equal to 0, then the input for the i-th input metadata message is intended to output an input metadata message that has a preferred processing order equal to po_sei_processing_order[i]-1.

5. The method of claim 2, further comprising, if the decoder cannot interpret or does not support any specified input metadata message with an importance flag set to "important," then the determined preferred processing order is ignored for all selected input metadata messages.

6. The method according to any one of paragraphs 1-5, in which the input metadata messages comprise a first class of input metadata messages for a first class of decoders and a second class of input metadata messages for a second class of decoders, wherein the ROM message belongs to the second class of input metadata messages, and wherein the first class of decoders represents a legacy decoder; In this case, the detection of the ROM message contains the following stages: if the decoder identifies itself as one of the decoders of the mentioned first class, then the identified ROM message and all input metadata messages specified in this ROM message are ignored, otherwise, if the decoder identifies itself as one of the second-class decoders, performing parsing of the input metadata messages comprises performing parsing of the input second-class metadata messages and ignoring the input first-class metadata messages.

7. The method according to claim 6, wherein determining the preferred order of processing further comprises the steps of: read the first processing order parameter, which specifies the total number of selected input metadata messages; read a second processing order parameter indicating the total number of property indications present that are applied after the processing of the selected input metadata messages is completed; and read the content of the input metadata messages specified by the second processing order parameter.

8. The method according to claim 6, wherein determining the preferred order of processing further comprises the steps of: read the first processing order parameter, which specifies the total number of selected input metadata messages; for at least one of the selected input metadata messages, respectively the i-th input metadata message: read a second processing order parameter indicating the total number of other input metadata messages with property pointers present that are applied after the i-th input metadata message has completed processing; and read the content of other input metadata messages specified by the second processing order parameter.

9. The method according to any one of claims 1-8, wherein the input metadata messages comprise messages with additional enhancement information, SEI.

10. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing computer-executable instructions for implementing, by one or more processors, the method according to any one of claims 1-9.

11. A device containing a processor and configured to implement any of the methods according to paragraphs 1-9.
