Abstract

A new product line of composite boards made from wood particles pressed in an acidic or alkaline environment offers increased added value through the recycling of industrial wood-processing waste, while simultaneously saving manufacturing energy. The method which utilizes acidic or alkaline treatment of wood particles during board production enables the manufacture of boards with equivalent strength at lower pressing pressures and temperatures compared to pressing in a pH-neutral environment. Furthermore, this method renders the boards more resistant to pests and fungi due to residues resulting from the exposure of wood particles to the acidic or alkaline aerosol. The distinctive surface structure, texture, and coloration of products manufactured using this method make them suitable for applications in furniture making, as well as in the production of decorative wall panels, suspended ceiling segments, and decorative interior elements.
